What I'm looking for is a good controller to play nes roms on the computer. I plan on hooking up the computer to the tv and playing. I'm looking for some similar to a playstation controller because that's all I've ever owned. Any recommendations?

i know you can plug xbox controllers into your pc, i suspect you can do the same with your ps stuff

You can get your PS3 controller to work on the PC. I use motionjoy to do it. If you have 64 bit windows you have to disable driver signature enforcement, but that's pretty simple to do. (F8 when computer first turns on then select disable driver signature enforcement).

Just get a wired 360 controller. Plug in and windows will do the rest.

You can get something like this if you just want to play nes roms. Or a ps2 to usb adapter. Both are pretty cheap options, but not sure how well they actually work. The 360 controller is pretty good if you are going to also play more modern games.

I would personally go this route. If you are using a 360 controller most modern games in Steam will auto-map their controls which is really nice. Plus, it's just a super comfortable controller even for retro games.
If you'll be sitting far from your PC, buy the wireless model.

For me, Microsoft has always recognized it's own product.
ETA I'm guessing you're using PS3 controllers?
