Launched at the rigolets last friday. Started off throwing spoon and spinners along the rocks in lake bornge shoreline, one lady fish. Moved into some ponds to do some sight casting, saw 3 that wouldn't eat. on the way in I stopped on some diving birds in the rigolets only to catch a monster gaftop. Ran from rigolets to bayou beinvenue to catch nothing. Should have trailered it down to reggio like my original plan. However, it was too rough for me to run to biloxi marsh.

ETA: talked with a couple people at the launch who had similar reports, I though I just suck at fishing.

East from where you launch. That's about all you need to know.

According to some guides, bigger trout are starting to show up at the rigs in Borgne.

@ Sloopy ran into you and VanRich in Reggio in the spring Any tips on where to start fishing the marsh? Is the marsh area producive west of alligator point or do I have to go across the lake?

Also does anyone know where Bayou Biloxi is? Paging TigerTrey

I ran up into the marsh in alligator point via little bayou magill and found beautiful water, grass, and tons of finger mullet, but no reds to be seen. I then ran towards bayou bienvenue and took a small bayou right before bayou bienvenue into some ponds loaded with grass and clear water, this is where I saw the reds that wouldn't eat. Thinking about heading down to reggio tomorow.

I've been having trouble finding reds at all this year fishing three different parts of the state. The only place I caught any worth keeping this year was south pass.

I wonder if inshore salinity is down this year or something.

No way man. This has been the best year for reds in along time From what everyone has been saying. Ive had outstanding trips and not so good trips, but I can usually find some. It's just a matter of them eating.

In Borgne specifically or all over?

I only made one trip to lake p this year and did catch a few good reds but were fishing mainly for specs.

Mostly hopedale/delacroix/venice. I don't usually fish lake borgne or pont., I just didn't feel like driving all the way to St. Bernard. The lake has been fricked this year because of an algae bloom I believe.

South pass/ Venice was the only place I caught reds this year and they were big and numerous.

Haven't fished Delacroix or hopedale though.

FWIW, low salinity shouldnt be a problem for reds. Trout is a different story.

Read the article I linked above. Walker says he's seeing jellyfish in Borgne. Jellyfish prefer higher salinity waters. Also says smaller trout are already at the bridges. (more proof of rising salinity levels)

If it ends up too ugly to cross Borgne to biloxi marsh, fish the ponds off the ICW. A coworker and I went last Sunday and boated 9 reds and a flat fish (the good kind without the tail/stinger) before storms ran us in around 10:30. All fish caught on gold spoons, reds were very scattered. Really not all that much grass in a lot of those ponds.

I've done well with reds all season, a couple boat trips, but mostly from the yak. Mostly out of Delacroix, I think I only had 2 trips where I didn't limit out. Caught a couple in Reggio, limited out on reds and caught a few trout on a trip to the marsh south of Lake Catherine. I've only been skunked once this season and it was in Hopedale, but not because it was Hopedale, I just think I was off that day. My fishing buddies have done well also.

I'm not very familiar with Reggio because I only went that one time when I saw sloopy and Underdog and Delacroix is just a little ways down the road. Once I got hot there and learning the area, I didn't want anything else. Delacroix is a yakkers paradise IMO.

This, those ponds tend to be a little deeper, but the water runs great through that marsh. Lots of nice cuts between ponds to pick up some fish. That whole area around Bobs Bayou and Bayou Platte is great.

We've been fishing out of LaFrance's in Ansley. Haven't torn them up yet, but the time's about to be right. Depending on tide, either in the bayous or along the shore.

Zoom out a bit to see, but it sounds close to where you are going.

We caught 20 reds in a pond in the biloxi marsh just south of lake borne last saturday. Live shrimp on cork.
