Official Gamescom 2013 Thread (Cliff Notes on First Page)

Gamescom is a video game conference that is held in Cologne, Germany every year and is the largest video gaming event in the world. Over 300,000 are expected to attend and every major publisher (EA, Activision, Ubisoft, Sony, Nintendo, MS, Konami, Sega, Square Enix, Crytek, Bethesda, etc) around the world will be there to show off upcoming games, while also announcing new stuff.
The conference officially opens Wednesday, August 21th and runs until the 25th. However, Sony and Microsoft will be having a small events Tuesday night. Sony's will be at Noon (CST), and MS's will be at 11am (CST). We know that Sony will be announcing the PS4 release date at their event. Live streams will be available for Sony's event at the usual suspects. LINK LINK

Yes, there will be no live stream for Microsoft, but info will trickle out afterwards. It's a press-only event, as is Sony's, but Sony makes a bigger show out of Gamescom.

I'd say its almost has that title. It's grown each year and I know Sony is treating it with greater importance every year (they announced the last global PS3 price cut there).
The US market has kinda plateau'd imo, while Europe has a lot of room to grow.
