Just got done watching West of Memphis

I live in Memphis but originally from St. Louis. I have watched the three Paradise Lost documentaries and I just want to know what the people from Arkansas and the Mid South think of the entire situation.

Did three killers get let free or did three young men lose 18 years of their life. My biggest question is why the Arkansas Bureau of Investigation does not reopen this case and do the investigation.

It's really hard to say from watching those docs as I believe they are a little biased.

I just can't see Jason Baldwin killing anyone so I lean towards that they were innocent.

This case has intrigued me since I watched the paradise lost docs.

I've never really given 2 shits about the case, but the police work seems to have been pretty flawed and it was a miscarriage of justice.

I watched it yesterday. I thought it was okay as a documentary. I preferred the Paradise Lost series more overall.

I really don't see one shred of evidence that said these kids did it. Reminds me of pitchfork and torch mob justice. And the state knew they are wrong, closed their eyes and marched on.

I specifically enjoy the prosecutor introducing the knife, calling it the murder weapon, when he in fact knew the knife was discarded into the lake - where it was found - ONE YEAR BEFORE the murders were committed.

The only reason anyone knows about this case is Paradise Lost. Otherwise, the state would have gotten away with it - they still pretty much did - and chalked it up as another successful closed case.

I got the Memphis channels and watched the news back when it happened. I don't think they did it but Damien Echols loved the cameras and attention. Every time they stuck a camera in front of him pre-trial. He acted like he was a crazy cold blooded killer and the devil worshiping son of Charles Manson. I guess he figured since he didn't do it there would be no evidence, he would be found innocent, and that would be it. Little did he know the cops would get a confession out of the half wit Misskelly and the rest is history.

They didn't kill the kids. They were stereotyped for being weird. Damien is messed up and still a weird guy today but I don't think he was involved. The other two weren't for sure. Arkansas looked stupid so they won't reopen. And with an Alford plea they don't have to.

It was a fascinating doc, though I wouldn't say you should watch it ASAP. Good for a rainy Saturday. I knew next to nothing about the case before watching, so it was interesting to go from "oh, these three a-holes had better rot in hell" to "damn, turtles can do some damage when hungry" to "Arkansas doesn't like to be wrong, especially to Eddie Vedder, Peter Jackson, and that one Dixie Chick"

At 38 minutes into the West of Memphis documentary a woman quotes the Craighead County Sherriff. Allegedly the Craighead County Sherriff said " It is this simple Crittendon County Freaked Up and the rest of us have to clean up"

Crittendon County should have gotten the ABI or the FBI involved. There was an FBI office less than 20 minutes away !!!!
