I'm assuming you are unaware that reality tv is actually scripted? It's ALL fake.

Saying it is ALL fake is probably too broad. No doubt all reality TV has some scripts and production but if you didn't, the continuity and interest would be more difficult to achieve.

I think a better way to say it is say some shows have more reality than others.

I think shows like Top Chef are real where it counts, which is the cooking. American Pickers is real in that they find really old stuff and buy it. You can research some of the items they bought afterward to see how big a deal some of their finds are. Now parts of the cooking and buying most likely has production mixed in (like the negotiations) but I think there is a good balance.

Another glaring example was the other day when I was watching Pawn Stars... A dude brought in his Back to the Future Delorean to sell. It was the EXACT same guy that "sold" his delorean on Auction Kings last year

Oh man, this is giving me a heart attack. Must ignore. I love Pawn Stars. Why does it always have to be fake

re: I'm confused about these "Moonshining" shows

quote:

Moonshiners is an American docudrama television series on the Discovery Channel that dramatizes the life of people who produce (illegal) moonshine in the Appalachian Mountains of North Carolina, Virginia, and South Carolina. The series dramatizes their liquor production efforts, law-evading techniques and life.[1] There have been claims by local officials that the show is not what it portrays to be. Virginia authorities have stated that no illegal liquor is actually being produced by the people depicted in the show. The Virginia Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control said in March 2012 that, "If illegal activity was actually taking place, the Virginia ABC Bureau of Law Enforcement would have taken action."[2] They also said that they had requested for the producers to add a disclaimer to clarify that the show was only a dramatization, "but the request was overlooked."[2]

Yea, the VABC is nothing to frick around with. They're absurd.

Regardless, they couldn't prosecute anyone based on show activity because they'd have no evidence. If they caught them after the fact (and it was real moonshine they were making), then that would be a different story and the people manufacturing it would just be even more stupid than I thought.

Yeah, and I've read that the people that are featured on the show aren't legally allowed to work at the shop

Then if your lucky they have the guys from the shop hang around to take pictures and stuff

They'll probably laugh at you if you bring something in for pawn

Here it is... I thought it was for another reason

quote:

2. The guys can't actually work the counter anymore because of privacy laws. Since they've become celebrities, people are constantly taking pictures of them, compromising the privacy of whoever's at the pawn counter. "Now I'll meet a guy in the hallway," said Corey

Thats a weird law. Who cares about the guys at the counters privacy if they signed up for a TV show?
