The Miami Heat star posted a video of him saying he was following "a police escort on the wrong side of the street" to get to the concert at Sun Life Stadium. The eight-second video shows James' vehicle behind others with police lights flashing, as oncoming traffic on the three-lane side of the road allowed them to pass.

I'm sure the bron bron supporters will spin excuses as to why this is acceptable

its jay z bro... its kind of a big deal

Acceptable because he is rich and famous and probably paid for it.... Plus he isn't first rich and famous person to get special treatment.... I mean Boston gave a starting catcher a police escort to a game so he would make it in time for first pitch.

So you can pay to drive into on coming traffic?
Posted on 8/17/13 at 9:45 am to LSUsmartass
Well not me I don't have millions.... LeBron can and maybe the OT

I guess what I'm asking is, if rich enough, you can pay to just do whatever the hell you want? Legally?

As long as he wasn't using tax payer dollars, I see no problem.

Pretty much

Before you send in your application form, keep in mind that extra-duty cops don't come cheap. If the extra-duty office approves your request, you'll probably have to pay $30 or $40 an hour for each officer, plus an added fee for the use of police cruisers. (There's often a four-hour minimum, and last-minute or holiday orders garner a premium rate.) The department assigns the well-paid bonus hours to its officers on a rotating schedule after taking out a few dollars per hour for administration.

I guess I've never seen a story where, in a non-medical emergency, an ordinary joe receives an escort to drive into oncoming traffic with an escort.

He's got to pay at least $10million in taxes annually, and that's probably a really conservative estimate. I'm fine with his receiving special treatment. I live rich people. They are valuable to us.

A police escort rushed Red Sox catcher Doug Mirabelli from Logan Airport to Fenway Park on Monday. Mirabelli, who had been traded to Boston shortly before Monday night's game, took the field less than 25 minutes later. Last week, a police detail in Edmonton, Alberta, met Red Wings goalie Jimmy Howard at the airport and rushed him to the game. How do you get a police escort?

if you pay for a police escort to something and traffic is backed up to all hell and an option is to go stop oncoming traffic and proceed, those cops are going to do it.

I'm still not seeing links where police escort = allowed to drive into oncoming traffic

Lebron James isn't "an ordinary joe". You want special treatment be special.

I'm pretty sure high rollers in Louisiana pay for police escorts leaving LSU games. It's probably more common that you'd think
Posted on 8/17/13 at 9:58 am to LSUsmartass
High school football teams have police escorts and that isn't emergency situations. You just have to pay for them.

And if a person refuses to get out of the way? You think a Lebron James escort excuse is going to hold up in court?

I'm sure it's all the same as police in Boston probably shut off many 1 lane roads up there and had them going in opposite way, yet since the roads were shut up there was no "on coming" traffic.
