Good read.

I have a friend who lives in Dubai but travels to Qatar frequently. He believes there is zero chance Qatar meets even half of FIFA's requirements by 2022. He says that many of his Qatari counterparts still believe they can do anything because of the gas price spike, but that they don't realize those profits are almost entirely dead.

It is a true shame that the WC is still slated to be there. FIFA needs to get their shite together, or a massive bribing scandal needs to break to divert this trainwreck.

There have already been bribing scandals. The problem is that there is no oversight for this sort of thing but FIFA policing itself. And we know how well that's been working...

O/U: 15% chance Qatar actually hosts in 2022.

If shite hits the fan really close to the World Cup, they could just hand it to the United States, knowing we are fully prepared.

Are we though?

As I understood it, our bid for 2022 was based on a lot of major upgrades to stadiums. I doubt we funnel that type of money into a project for something that may or may not happen.

We offered to upgrade to make ourselves more appealing. The state of Texas could host alone with Reliant, Jerry World, Kyle, and DKR.

Too narrow.

Again, too narrow. Did you see how close the corner flag was to the wall in the Gold Cup?

Also, they better start growing grass then. So many teams would boycott having to play on patchy sod.

In terms of the pitch, this would work because the seats aren't right on top of the football field. However, they would have to enclose the stadium to be taken seriously by FIFA.

Regardless, if push came to shove we certainly COULD host a WC on relatively short notice @ places like Ford Field, Soldier Field, the Rose Bowl, Sun Life, etc, etc.

You're insane if you think this matters in the end. No World Cup/fricked up World Cup versus giving it to the US when maybe not all of the stadiums are up to snuff? Yeah, that's a no brainer.

Also, I watched a few GC games at Reliant in 2011. It was fine.

You're insane if you think it doesn't.

And Reliant was serviceable, Jerry World was awful.

This also raises some questions about Russia in 2018 and the crackdown on basic rights.

Ok. Since it matters so much I guess they would just not have a world cup then, you know, because not all of the seats on the chairs have backs or something.

Because that's what I said, right?

Chair back seats =/= an inadequate pitch

I thought we were arguing about the stadiums, not the pitch.

Reliant is fine.

And I'm sure you can find enough stadiums in the US with wide enough pitches. I'm not as worried as you are about it.

I'm talking about how trying to squeeze a soccer field onto a football specific stadium makes for a sloppy product.

There should never be another soccer match in Jerry World unless they add more room for corner kicks.

After we wreck shite next summer in Brazil and take home the trophy, we should automatically get the 2022 bid.
