"Thamel: Corso is one of the great faces and voices of college football, but it's obvious that his time on GameDay is nearing its end. That's sad for everyone. Someday, I could certainly see Les Miles zinging one-liners and Les-isms from that chair, telling everyone to have a GREAT Saturday. Just please don't put Lou Holtz there. Anyone but him."

Les has been used quite a bit as a guest announcer such as during the draft. I think he would be a great fit.

This thread title is misleading. You linked a roundtable article where one person mentioned Les. Others included David Shaw, Rick Neuheisal, and anyone but Lou Holtz.

I personally like the idea of Neuheisal. And like the idea of going away from Corso's style or not replacing him right away when he retires.

Personally I think the majority would all geaux for having Les Miles as a replacement over any other coach, for the excitement he brings to the game. But Steve Spurrier also might do.

Les is obviously a good choice for the homer in me, but who wouldn't be fighting through their 9:00am gameday hangover to watch Steve Spurrier rambling and pissing everyone off in the process.

I don't think Spurrier would care for that job. Hell id love to see the right reverend Houston Nutt in that spot. He'll say dumb shite for free, let alone getting paid for it.

He'd miss out on too much golf.

Les would be awesome in that role....But i wasn't aware that Corso is on his way out. I mean, if Lou Holtz still has a job, then Corso has what,...40 more years of service???

Bobby Petrino would fit in well. He'd be the perfect know-it-all who second-guesses every move, and he'd bitch constantly about Les, Saban and every other coach who whipped his arse on the field.

Imagine what Les Miles and Steve Spurrier working together on Gameday would do for those of us hungover before the game. Would it hurt more laughing or trying to interpret the exchange?

Corso has had some health issues. Just watch game day last year, Corso often looked tired. He would turn it on when the spot light was on him, but he just never seemed to have that same spark throughout the program.

It's called "being 78" - he roomed with Burt Reynolds at FSU - so you know those haven't been an "easy" 78 years.

It probably never happens but Mike Leach would make a great replacement. Of course, Fox would hire him.

I actually started a thread suggesting this about 2 years ago that was not well received.

That said, two guys might fit the bill. The best options seem to be Gerry DiNardo or Neuheisel. DiNardo, who works for the Big Ten Network — full disclosure, I worked on a BTN show with him during the 2011 season — has the right mix of head-coaching bona fides (LSU, Indiana) and impishness. He enjoys mixing it up, and he’s funny as hell.

Really?

If Lee leaves, then I fully expect Lou Holtz to take that spot. He is old and fits closer to Lee than Mark May, who I wouldn't mind seeing in his place. then you can move Jesse Palmer in either Lou's spot or May's spot with College Football Final. Just my $.02.

In all seriousness, he had a bad stroke a few years ago, so with my grandpa having those, it can do serious damage. You can lose the use of your limbs, speech, etc. He hasn't been the same since then, but most people aren't. I just hope he isn't forced out, but realizes it is his time to go and decides to hang it up. I love his mascot headgear. Need someone to replace that for sure.

Yes, Les is perfect! Corso needs to retire this year! I will pay for all of the moving costs!

Not me. He thinks the PAC-12 plays the best football. He does not know the rest of the country very well, and I have heard him issue some absurd opinions about the SEC. He lost nearly everywhere he coached.

That being said, I could enjoy DiNardo.

I like your idea of Steve Spurrier. Would not pull any punches.
