Looking for a fixed blade knife to throw in my hunting/bug out bag. Saw a few at cabelas that had what looked like a kydex sheath w fire starters w it.
I like that feature but its not required.
What does the OB carry/recommend?

I have a custom made monolithic knife that I won at a charity auction.

I used to use a Buck.

Dozier makes a well balanced lifetime knife.

People pay that much for sunglasses that I promise will not around when that knife is just getting broken in good.

I have a Ka-Bar becker and it is a great knife.
Large enough for what I want it fore but small and light enough to pack.

Benchmade Nimravus

Second choice would be a SOG Seal Pup

(Ka Bar would be third)

There have been some good suggestions, but the answer really depends on your price range. Whatever you decide on, I can almost guarantee that you can find it much cheaper online than at a store like Cabela's or BPS. I've gotten almost every knife I own from Cutlery Shoppe ("nutnfancy" code for free shipping), Knifeworks or Amazon.

my fixed blade "beater" knife is an Ontario 499.

It's thick, heavy, stands up to abuse and relatively cheap.

My suggestion was actually going to be an ESEE 4, but I think a lot of the guys on this board don't want to spend nearly $100 on a knife.

try scarblades.com
they have a lot of different blades, I have the falcon. Very durable, lifetime warranty. They will sharpen and refinish with cerakote, you just pay shipping.

Budget is flexible but trying to stay under $100 for no particular reason.

My needs list:
Tilley hat
Quality canteen
Multi tool
Bug out bag food
Fixed blade knife
Multipurpose rope

I want fire starting tools as well.

I like a good knife and this one looks to fit the bill. I have yet to pull the trigger on one in this price range, but I've been looking.

If you mean for the knife only, then the ESEE, KA-BAR and Becker (made by KA-BAR) knives will serve you well.

Like another poster said though...check out ESEE's warranty.

I was hesitant when I first bought the skinner version. After having it for one hunting season I ordered this one for a more versatile knife other than the traditional skinning knife. I can tell you that if I were to lose it I would buy another,

The kydex sheath is the cats arse too!

Horizontal carry is way better than vertical IMO.

I like these too. I've had my eye on the Azula for a neck knife.
