We may have a better Linebacker Corp than in 2001, we have a couple kids in the secondary that are coming in and can play day 1, both of the Jalen's have a full year of SEC play as well as Poppa in the back, it looks like Ronald will probably win the other Safety job but I wouldn't be mad if Thompson won it, add on a defensive line featuring The Freak and Ego full time this year, WE will all be reminded of why he's called the freak this year. Throw in the ends we already have plus the kids that are coming in to play day one and the sky is the limit with this defense, it's scary to think that with the next recruiting class coming in how good this defense will be for years to come! And I'm an offensive guy!

Nobody questions how good we possibly COULD be, rather how good we are going to be. It's alot of unknowns about this defense. How will these guys step in full time and will new comers shine. I think we can but we don't know yet.

Reid wasn't the same Reid last year without BT as a safety blanket, I think Poppa will be that senior leadership that BT was, and whoever wins the opposite safety job will be able to ball hawk and take chances, as for Bennie, The Freak could be a legit top 10 pick with a good showing this year, The two ends we lost hurt, but how much pressure did we honestly get out of them? They played assignments a lot last year instead of just pinning their ears back. Rasco and those freshmen will step up and fill the void, now onto the LB's, Kwon started as a True Freshmen, Lamar came in when he got hurt, we get Tahj Jones back, and Lamin Barrow, and my favorite Deion Jones ( I don't think he'll be able to crack the starting lineup but I love his energy and motor) We are loaded on D!

I get it. We are loaded. But most of those people you named are young or kind of inexperienced. I'm not trying to dampen the mood but you just don't know. We can only hope and see how they turn out.

Btw you didn't name out best LB lol

Believe it or not I think we will be better than last year on D though. I'm worried about safety spot more than most people though. I don't think Loston coverage skills are the greatest. Not bad but not great. And the other spot is gonna be someone kind of inexperienced

FIFY.....
IF it doesn't have Saban in it CFB analysts poo poo it as being second best. I'll Take Chavis over Miles any day of the week. LSU is a D machine. Now with CC hopefully the O will catch up.

Except that your example lists only 3 people and "Mingo,Sam,Minter,Reid,&Logan... simon" = 6 people... apples and oranges.

also...

just because we've "reloaded" in the past, doesn't mean it's GUARANTEED we will not skip a beat EVERY time.

Only positions I am worried about is DE and whatever safety spot Loston doesn't play. Regardless, I think we at least have a defense on the level of 2010 or close to it. We got through that season with 2 losses and we're sure to have a better offense this year than that. The only difference is the schedule.

We're gonna be fine but we do have several serious issues that you'd have to be blind not to see.

1) We had only 5 DEs at Spring practice. One of those guys was injured (Maclin) and another is a converted LB (Feist). Basically, we have Rasco, Allen, Hunter, and a bunch of freshmen. That's not a great situation at that position.

2) We couldn't cover elite receivers last year. Hopkins and Moncrief tore our asses up. We are lucky that Amari Cooper didn't play in the Bama game. I'll borrow a quote from Nick Saban here:

"Experience doesn't mean much if your experience is getting the ball thrown over your head."

We better hope White and Robinson are as good as advertised, because we need them.

3) The whole MLB situation. Is Welter really gonna man that position every snap? I personally don't think he's gonna cut it.

The difference is that year we returned guys like Kevin Minter, Michael Brockers, Bennie Logan, Sam Montgomery, Keke Mingo, Tyrann Mathieu, Ron Brooks, Eric Reid, etc.

This year, who we got? We've got 3 DEs, and only one has played significant time (Rasco). We've got a pushover (in my opinion) starting at MIKE, and we've got a couple of corners who can't cover elite receivers.

We're going to rely HEAVILY on freshmen contributors. Call me crazy, but I don't see that as a good thing.

What you don't realize is you're operating a lot in hindsight. So many of those names you mention were young, inexperienced and unproven themselves at some point. They became stars when given the opportunity. The same will happen this year. These young men are high caliber athletes that have been in the system long enough to be prepared. Its time for them to shine.

Absolutely, and I think we've got a lot of guys who are primed to break out. Guys like Kwon Alexander and Debo Jones. Guys like Ronald Martin and Jermauria Rasco.

But we've got some problems in key spots. That's how I see it anyways.

I feel you. I think dline depth may be a question. But we are stacked and talented in other areas of the d. I think we'll get it done.
