The forgotten Buddy Cop movies...

I was watching part of The Hard Way last night and I was thinking how great the chemistry was between James Woods and Michael J. Fox. Why wasn't it more popular? They had good timing together, James Woods was phenomenal as a angry washed up cop, and it had LL Cool J in it. This got me to thinking about other great buddy cop movies that could have been successful franchises.
The most immediate that comes to mind is the classic Running Scared with Billy Crystal and Gregory Hines. That duo was ripe for a Lethal Weapon style run. Dan Hedaya as the police captain was fantastic and the other two detectives that always gave them shite were equally good. There were hot random 80's chicks, rollerskating in ridiculous short shorts with knee socks, all set to the incomparable beat of Mr. Michael McDonald. I would have watched 3 of these things.
What are some others that didn't get the franchising they deserved?

LOVE Running Scared. That movie is great! Was lucky enough to find a copy at Target for $7.50 a few years back.

I really could have used another Beverly Hills Cop.

There was one with Charlie Sheen and Clint Eastwood I watched a while back, The Rookie. It wasn't that great but it would have been cool to see another movie out of it.

National Lampoon's Loaded Weapon 1 with Emilio Estevez and Samuel L Jackson was hilarious.

It's not forgotten but it definitely doesn't get the status it deserves.

I thought Running Scared was good. Didn't see a lot of the rest of the ones mentioned in this thread.
As to why they didn't spawn multiple movies, who knows? Could be one or more of the stars in each movie wasn't looking for a string of the same movie. Could be rights issues (I don't know if any of the movies were based on pre-exising media). Most likely I think is a lot of the stars mentioned are just too damn ugly. Billy Crystal, Gregory Hines,,James Woods, James Belushi, etc. Maybe they couldn't pull enough women viewers to justify sequels The world's a shallow place my friend.

Running Scared is the correct answer. Bad Boys is almost an exact copy of it when it comes to tone.
Love that movie. Still own the VHS.
Tip, is offered on the free movies on Cox demand
