lackluster Baton Rouge concerts
There's more shows that I enjoy in BR than NOLA. Alt country/Americana/southern rock.
Why do you care so much?
Posted on 7/30/13 at 12:41 pm to TheDoc
TBH, while NOLA has a great local music scene (on par with any city) and I think it is much better than BRs... It should be doing a whole lot better with national bands, than it does...

Actually I do get it
No, you actually don't.
You can't comprehend how tours are bought and booked through live nation through the house of blues Chains.
They buy whole tours so that BR can't compete with it. When a whole tour is bought you can just do a one off show in BR etc.
So really, no, you don't understand.
You see a show get booked in Nola and not booked in BR and go: "ah hah! Baton Rouge must suck because they didn't get this show!" It's simpleminded and ignorant.
So before you go around trying to look like you know what the frick you're talking about, you might want to actually know what's going on.

It is a message board. You are supposed to talk about stuff.
I may not live in Baton Rouge anymore (thank Jah) but I would like to see the city of my alma mater have a nice musical landscape, rather than one drowning in a sea of Deftones and Sister Hazels.

I've been waiting for another Heady vs Doc battle

I find that hard to believe since all you do is put it down and, to my knowledge, don't contribute anything to growing it...

I have many friends in Nola in bands. Some great local bands:
Coyotes
Alexis and the samurai
Vox and the hound
Caddywhompus
Prom date (half BR/half Nola)
Big history
Bantam foxes
Happy talk
Native America
Sun hotel
Dirty bourbon river show
Heat dust
Hurray for the riff raff

Well I bought Arctic Monkeys tickets presale, so I guess that is a contribution
Also would have liked to have gone to the George Porter Jr show at Chelseas a few weeks back but alas I was out of town

I like hip hop but the majority of the time it doesn't translate to a good live show
Posted on 7/30/13 at 12:53 pm to HeadyBrosevelt
With New Orleans being basically the musical mecca of the south other than Memphis or Nashville it's actually surprising BR gets what it gets. Honestly why do you care so much?

I saw Public Enemy at the Varsity... metal detectors and all... it was fricking awesome...
other than that, I saw Run DMC/Beastie Boys on the Raising Hell/License to Ill tour...
Beastie Boys at an early Lolla
I believe those are the only hip hop shows Ive been too

just depends imo. I disagree that majority doesn't translate, to each his own. ive seen el-p live numerous times and enjoyed the hell out of it each time.

Beastie Boys were fricking awesome though. They are one of my favorite groups ever and I had some great LSD.
Turned out to be their last show ever. RIP MCA!
