I am not a crack shot. I miss a lot. In fact, for a guy that's killed a few deer (like maybe 25 or so? - I'm mainly a duck hunter), I miss a BUNCH. Have missed some easy ones too. I've also made a shot or two over the years that I still scratch my about and think "how in the world....."

So, tell me y'alls best lucky/awesome shot stories please. We've all got one.

I killed an entire family of hogs of a wheeler. 10 to be exact and spared one to catch as a pet, but the dumb arse pig drowned in a 5 gallon bucket of water.

RIP

Walking out of woods with climber on back. Doe comes running through woods. We are not shooting does. I think it's neat and stop to watch. Then another. Then I see huge forks. Mature buck following them. he crosses a creek. I reload rifle in time to find the spot where I'll never see him again. Follow him in scope to that point. Pull trigger. Dead buck.

I havent really gotten that "one lucky shot".

But I have dropped a few geese from stupidly high levels. 3.5" T Shot and Patternmaster extra full choke...I have pulled a few out of the clouds with it.

Pair of mallards swinging wide on us, figured i'd give the drake a try since they weren't gonna commit. It was way out there, not going to throw a yardage estimate bc I don't know for sure. Knocked him down, was able to retrieve him.....turned out to be banded. lucky all around

I hit a squirrel with a scoped .22, dead center on the head, at about 40 yards while it was running through the trees.

I have no idea how I did it. When he dropped, I looked around to see if anyone saw my amazing shot, but then I realized I was in the middle of the fricking woods.

Pretty good tale there. I had one that WOULD have been similar, but for the fact that:

1. I was walking in/not out, and
2. See OP - I missed lol.

Shot a deer loping through a cut over at about 250 yards.
I was walking from my stand back to camp, looked up and there was 2 bucks and a doe shag assing out of dodge.
I threw up free handed, saw hair and fired.

I thought ididnt come close. However i did go look, and i found the deer i shot. Perfect shot through the shoulder.
But sure as shite it was the damn doe.

Not me, but my roommate in college shot a coot in mid flight from a moving boat with one hand while laying on his back. We laughed our asses off.

Also, we used to keep a sawed-off .410 in the boat for snakes and such. It had about a 4 inch barrel and the stock was cut off to a pistol grip. My brother and I were paddling down Jeam's Bayou when he pulled it out and dropped a squirrel from the top of a tall cypress tree. It fell dead in the water.

I've pulled a few doubles now while turkey hunting where I killed two gobblers in a single shot.

Did the same with hogs a few years ago, killed two with single shot from the 300..

I hit a nutra-cat in the back of the head with a dead stick thrown like a spear from about 30'. Dead as a hammer.

Pulled up at my parents one night and saw a coyote in the back yard. Ran inside and got the .270, my dad and a spotlight. He held the light on the yote which by then was hauling arse about 150 yards away. I could barely make him out in the scope on low power and just guessed and shot. Hit him in the neck and rolled him. Didn't know until the next morning because I couldn't see. Went back inside thinking I missed and found him the next morning while hauling limbs.

Bowhunting in NW Missouri the second week of December around 2007. It was -2 degrees with a foot of snow on the ground. I was hunting on the edge of a corn field and watched deer all afternoon over 150 yards away.

One lone huge doe walked down the edge of the field to my left 10 minutes before dark. I mustered the strength to pull my string back and let the arrow rip. She looked as if she had no idea what happened. I thought I missed a broad side shot at 30 yards so I strung another missile from my Mathews Q2. I was about to draw again when she walked off away from me. I watched her for another couple of minutes and saw her do the death quiver in the field about 100 yards away.

I got down and found her tracks where I shot her. It was the longest shot I had ever made at 55 yards. Clean double lung shot. I couldn't believe the distance, but couldn't tell with the backdrop of the snow in the field. I was very lucky that day. The doe weighed damn near 300 pounds.

Nice. Me and a buddy of mine were riding around his farm drinking beer several years ago. I got out to pee and he was blabbing on his phone. Whilst pissing I looked up and saw the coon hugged up to the tree near the top. Instinctively I drained the rest of my beer and let fly with the bottle. To my surprise I dead centered the thing in the head and it dropped to the earth like a sack of shite. I stood there in awe. My buddy says "did you just knocking a coon out of a tree with a beer bottle?". I said yep. I don't know if it was dead or just knocked the frick out. But it was still laying at the base of the tree in the fetal position when we drove out. Damndest thing I've ever did.

All 100% pure unbridled skill when I make an amazing shot.

Except for that one time I hit a skeet out of a thrower with a .22 pistol that shoots about 100 feet high at 10 yards. That was nothing but dumb luck.
