I sometimes hear people talking about how good basketball used to be and how those guys could play today...

Their offenses are very simplistic, as is the defense, and the players are nowhere near as good. Not even close.

And this is the Celtics and Lakers.

As far as conditioning, athleticism and preparation/training are concerned those 1980's teams would get run out of the gym due to the pace of the game today and the freaks of nature playing basketball today. Just think about how bad Bird would get murdered on D by Lebron or Durant.

Da frick? Showtime Lakers were nuts.

But the Heat during their streak this year, that was about the best basketball I've ever seen, they were just ballin.

You think the 80s Lakers would get run out of the gym by the Heat? The Showtime Lakers? Wow.

I'm not impressed at all. Their offense is about as complex as high school freshman basketball.

Hardly any picks being set, no ball screens, no cutters, nothing. It consists of getting the ball inside and everybody stand around and let the big man score or pass it back out.

There is no need to rotating on defense or nothing.

Just very simplistic.

And as individuals, they are just alright. I haven't been impressed with anybody. Just basic basketball.

Easily. They couldn't handle the complexity of today's game.

They would be so out of position on rotations that it wouldn't even be funny.

They can shoot 3's unlike players in the 80's and would spread them out so much.

And then you have LeBron and Wade who can take over individually.

It wouldn't even be a contest.

They've changed the rules, so the defense is different and they players are no where near as good as what exactly? Players 30 years later that have 30 years more knowledge about training, nutirion stuff like that?

Go look at track and field/weightlifting records from 1985 then compare them to today. The caliber of athlete is exponentially better today. 2013 would run them out the gym physically. And in 2040, those players will be freaks compared to 2013.

I'm not even talking about athletically. I'm talking about skill-wise.

I'm not saying the Lakers whip the Heat but no way in hell, they get run out of the gym. Completely idiotic.
