Is this the best possible offensive formation for the full USMNT?

Could the below work, assuming we have an LB solid enough to replace FJ there?

-----------------Jozy------------------
Dempsey--Donovan--F.Johnson

Reasoning:

Dempsey - His best position during his best years at Fulham was LW. He makes great late runs into the box, provides excellent heading ability as well, and is great cutting in on his right foot. Him tucking in will allow our LB to overlap.

Donovan - Have you WATCHED the Gold Cup? Easily the most intelligent man on the field, he reads the game well, makes smart plays, and knows when to attack the space, move the ball wide, run at players, etc. Also makes very smart runs off of other players and is still a viable speed option. LD makes things happen in an area where we've traditionally struggled to make things happen.

F. Johnson - Has shown fantastic crossing ability and great speed on the wing. Would be able to set up Dempsey and Jozy with constant service, and also has an ability to go 1v1 that Zusi does not. Johnson has mentioned several times that his preferred position is RW.

Jozy - because duh.

Obviously the concern is LB, but I really don't think Beasley is a viable option there come WC2014, especially given how he gets bodied off the ball by small Central American players. Having Bradley play on that side in the defensive 2 would help provide some cover, but with Dempsey not putting in a lot of defensive work, this could be a disaster waiting to happen. To Run DMB's credit, he makes great overlapping runs and is usually faster than his opponent on balls over the top (both offensive and defensive).

We need Chandler to get his shite together or Lichaj to start getting looks from Jurgen. If these both find a spot on the roster, I would be more than comfortable pushing FJ up to RW.

Thoughts?

I'd think F. Johnson should be on the left and Dempsey on the right, but realistically the 3 of them could swap throughout.

Also I wouldn't mind Eddie playing a good sub role.

I would have Zusi in for Fabs, because I think Zusi is our best crosser and can provide something we don't have with CD or LD. Fabs is also a good crosser but I think Zusi is a better fit, especially with the chemistry he and Jozy are gaining.

You're right that Jozy and Zusi have good chemistry, but I don't think it's a question that Johnson is a more technical player. His service to Altidore has also been pretty good.

Fabian Johnson on the left and yeah that's probably it.

Nah I don't think it is either.

I think they are both good players but Zusi seems to provide something that we don't have, more so than Fabs. Can give great service for Deuce, Landy, and Jozy, where as Fabs can take people one on one but so can Landy and Deuce (somewhat). Plus I would rather Fabs be starting at LB.

PS: Remember you're talking to an SKC fan here, so I am possibly being extremely biased when it comes to Zusi. And by possibly I mean without a doubt.

Fabian Johnson set up like every one of our goals for a 3 game stretch. He's definitely more of an asset than Zusi and I like Zusi.

Hendo, if Fabian is on the left do you put Dempsey on the right?

And I think Zusi has already secured his spot on the 23 going to Brazil.

I think you can put either Dempsey or Donovan on the right. I feel like they'd be able to interchange. We need to have a pretty reliable right back for that to happen though.

If Cherundolo is healthy, it doesn't get more reliable than that.

That's becoming a big "if" though.

IMO FJ is most valuable to us at LB. Him and Chandler at fullbacks would give us the most technical and athletically dynamic outside backs we've ever had.

Donovan on the left cutting in to his right, and cutting into the center of the pitch to playmake, allow Deuce to push up as a shadow to Jozy, he is also a better from distance than LD, so playing him centrally would keep him in shooting range all the time. Let Zusi keep playing his right mid spot that he has been killing it at. Zusi really is underrated on this board, him and Jozy have formed quite some chemistry as of late, his crosses and service into the box is money, he also tracks back alot and puts in a ton of defensive work. Jozy is Jozy.

+1

He provides some much needed attractiveness. We absolutely need him to counterbalance Chandler's frankensteinish looks.

I don't think it's so much what Zusi provides on the wing that FJ does not. I think it's more what you give up by not having FJ at left back. In other words, Zusi on the wing + FJ at left back >>> FJ on the wing and Beasley at left back.

Beasley has played well there lately, but FJ is the far better option at left back. Plus, with Donovan or Dempsey on the left wing, they will naturally tend to drift inside. We've seen how good FJ is on the overlap. Also, neither Donovan nor Dempsey on the left wing is going to provide a ton of help to the left back defensively. I feel a whole hell of a lot more comfortable with FJ in that spot as opposed to Beasley.

so, you'd rather just throw him feet first into the first, upon Chandler's next appearance. I'd rather he get his feet wet, and acclimate to the team.
