It probably helps that the HR Derby is the only sports event going on during that time slot. During any non-finals NBA game, there's the NHL playoffs and the MLB regular season. So if you prefer hockey over other sports or your favorite baseball team is playing, you may watch that over Spurs vs. Warriors. But if you're a sports fan, what else are you going to watch on HR Derby Monday?

Excellent point. Also a lot of the baseball is dying talk comes from the fact that a much higher percentage of it's viewership comes from 30+ than the other major sports. shite soccer might actually be close to baseball in the 18-25 market

Baseball does play double the games, and it owns the summer when nothing else is on.

Baseball starts when NBA is ending and ends during football, baseball like basketball has 2 months where it has no other real sports competition. Basketball enjoys most of Feb (outside Superbowl) and March, MLB owns all of July and part of August (CFB/Traing camp begins and NBA finals end in June) so that is dumb argument

Some college football regular season games, as well as some of the small, most meaningless bowl games outdrew Game 7 of the NBA Finals.

I'd probably go Football (CFB/NFL), MLB, NHL.

I do love college basketball though, just moreso around March Madness like most.

I agree with this, although I don't mind the NBA, but I just don't watch that much of it.

And the All Star game outdrew any non title playoff game. Silly exhibition games in a dying sport outdrawing meaningful games. Crazy.

All star game ratings are still trending downwards.

I don't know if Baseball is a "dying sport" but if you are going to use the all-star game to prove a point, I think the downward trend of its ratings is an important detail.

Seems like a more relevant comparison would be to the NBA dunk contest.

I watched the Derby and haven't watched an MLB game all year.

It's almost like people draw conclusions about how well baseball is doing based on if they like it or not instead of looking at the numbers
