Yes, the ported choke has a little blast to it. 99% of the time I use it is solo in a layout blind for geese.

Same can be said for the Golden Pheasant loads. I've never shot them at ducks, but if I did fellow blind members would certainly curse their loudness.

But if you do see a “pheasant” while in a duck blind and have some fiocchi shells w/ you - what choke would you use. Would you go back to the old days and shoot M or F?

I'm pretty sure I have a modified in my gun. Whatever is in it will be in it for the duration of the guns life.

I shoot an improved modified. I've found it works best whether shooting pheasant or ducks.

Now I find out about the “pheasant” loads – after I sell my Ithaca featherwt 30” full choke …… perfect match except I hated the way it kicked like a mule. Someone has good buckshot gun for deer drives

What you are really looking for is how and where the gun shoots. Knowing the point of impact is critical and many folks are surprised to see how high/low or even left/right their gun shoots especially when shooting at extended range.
Beyond that I agree with the others that you are wasting your time if doing much patterning for waterfowling. For waterfowl I'd say pick a shell thats readily available and fits your budget and pair it with a quality choke and hit the patterning board. No sense buying multiple chokes or loads unless you have money to burn. The pattern will show where the gun shoots and thats that...
Now, if you do as I do and hunt turkeys then patterning becomes a bit more critical. Suddenly striving for patterns like this becomes a useful endeavor..

If you approach brushing, decoys, camouflage , calling, retrieving, shot placement, and finding a location with the same zeal as you do on patterning your gun you should win the waterfowl shoot out all by your lonesome this year.

Da frick is this? You don't know shite about how I do any of the above, so take your haughty talk and shove it up your arse. And do yourself a favor and don't point to that waterfowl shoot as evidence of your superiority.
ETA: And after re-reading my post, I might have taken you the wrong way. It just came off to me as 'you're doing it wrong'. Obviously I realize that patterning my gun isn't the end all solution. I never said it was. It's just a fun little experiment I've been wanting to do. Nothing else.

I was merely pointing out that you seem to have all the bases covered and if your personality type is to be a perfectionist you should have no problems killing ducks. The average guy doesn't pay attention to detail and then moans about not killing ducks.

And we got a lease this year as opposed to battling public land last year, so the hunting should be good!
