That's the beauty of what the creators did. The first season focused on MOW to get people interested, then they started the mythology of the universe the show is in for the rest of the time.
Eventually you start to look forward to the MOW episodes to catch your breath from the continuing storyline.
Possibly the most re-watchable series for me. I've started from the first season and run marathons numerous times.

It works with some shows and not with others.. sadly Fringe tried to do the same thing - but never really got a lot of support. That being said, I'm glad Fringe only lasted 5 seasons.. was a perfect 5 season series.
