And by 'good' I mean a legitimately funny film that is enjoyable for most people and is quotable.

The Grown Ups 2 review thread had me thinking...

Happy Gilmore, Billy Madison, Big Daddy, The Waterboy, The Wedding Singer - all classic Sandler films. Will we ever see him in something along those lines again?

Or are we stuck with the crap that he has become so accustomed to appearing in for the past 13 or so years?

It is quite obvious he just doesn't give a shite anymore, and it saddens me a bit.

When the shite that he puts out stops making money, he will probably do something else. Until then, look forward to "Jack and Jill 2" coming to a theater near you.

If he's not at all involved in the creative process, there's a chance.

But there is no incentive for it, though. He's making piles of money for him and his friends serving up warmed over shite.

Click and 30 First Dates were pretty good.

No. He has been rewarded for all of his shitty movies. Why would he change course when he is raking in tons of cash?

It is more likely that he will actually make this movie.

I liked funny people

ETA: Critics hated all the comedies you listed above because they were too "low brow".....I have a feeling if made today the snobs on this board would feel the same way

It's possible he'll do something OK again, but it certainly won't be a Happy Madison production if he does. He'll have to be sucked up by a competent filmmaker to even have a chance.

But I'd say it's highly unlikely.

Agreed. Chance of Adam Sandler making a good movie again is like asking if Will Smith is going to quit pimping out his son to movie goers.

It depends on if he gets bored with what he's currently doing. I think he certainly has it in him to do something better, but he's having fun hanging out with his friends making silly movies that are lighthearted and easy.

Until someone approaches him with an interesting project like Funny People, which was spectacular until about halfway through when it went to the dogs and floundered like an out of water fish at the end as it couldn't tell when to stop, he will continue to do what he enjoys. He probably doesn't feel the need to challenge himself anymore.

Are those films from the 90s looked at more fondly by some of you because you were younger when they came out?

This is why I was so let down by Funny People. I figured Sandler and Rogen in an Apatow film would've been great, but i was just sad the whole time watching it. It was decent, I guess, but not what I was hoping for in any way.

And obviously he can't play ridiculous roles like he could in the 90s anymore, but I just guess the ridiculousness is what made him funny.

Name me these scores of movies that Will Smith has personally cast his son in. Surely there must be numerous examples of them. Also, who forced you to go see them?

I have gone see none of them because they didn't interest me. I saw the Karate Kid in the 80s, so I don't need to see a new one now. And the recent flick, which was a flop, didn't appeal to me either.

There was After Earth, Pursuit of Happyness (which was good, but his son was in it), Karate Kid remake and then Will and Jada let their 12 year old daughter get a tongue ring and whip her hair back and forth....

Plus Will's son hangs out with Bieber.

And it's only the start of Will and Jaden being a dynamic duo...

You mean the movie that had a $40 million production budget and grossed just under $360 million at the worldwide box office? That flop?

After Earth,

You have a point here. This is the only movie you have a point.

Your point? If it was good, it was good. Why cast some other kid to play his son when they can just have his son do it for that natural father son chemistry?

And this has what exactly to do with the film industry?

.....is there a point? What's so wrong about a father doing productive activities with his son? Hell at least he is trying to help his kid's out. Would you rather he ignore his kids and go off to do movies for months out of the year or keep them close and have a good family unit?
