I live around that area and I've talked to some people who say he's pretty mellow off the field in the sense that he doesn't really bring any attention to himself or do anything crazy. Must be a hard worker with hopefully some humility. LSU needs as many talent/character guys as they can get. I know obvious statement.

I feel like Coach Cameron has visions of Anquan Boldin with Upchurch. Obviously Upchurch is no where near that level, but they're very similarly built, extremely physical, and tough to bring down.

I think he will do well here.

Seems like a better version of chuck baker.

Hard to believe he got so little attention from anyone else other than LSU. Then again, the guy he reminds me of is Justin Blackmon whose offers were Okie State, Missouri, Colorado, and N Iowa. He was also rated only a 5.6 3* by Rivals exactly like Upchurch is rated. Neither has blazing speed but big enough bodies to cause trouble, go for the ball, and they catch the ball. If you like what Blackmon did for OSU, you will like what Upchurch does at LSU.

He and Voorhies are the two "sleepers" in this class, imho. I don't know how people can see his video and not see him developing at LSU and having a shot to play in the league down the road.

He shut down his recruitment. Other schools have tried but he doesn't care. Both Texas and aTm would offer him, but he's all LSU

I'm loving it even more every day. Usually skill position players like to test other waters even when committed (which makes no sense as to commiting in the first place). Him completely satisfied and sure of his next step is what I'd like to see more often in recruiting. Kinda like how Peppers is all over the place trying to recruit Hand and Fournette. You know a guy like that isn't going anywhere. We've also got a few guys on our team and Harris coming on, on the 18th will give us a huge leverage in WR recruiting.

I just got a gut feeling we get everybody we want from our state.

He's gonna be a match up nightmare for opposing D's. 6'3" 240 after a year in the LSU strength and conditioning program.

Good point and of course happens all the time...but usually it is within state on early verbals. LSU and LA players...Texas and TX prospects, etc. Plus, the video out there is obviously from his JR season since he hasn't played his SR year yet. Where were Texas and Texas A&M and Texas Tech and Baylor and TCU several months ago or even last year in their interest?

Ill be honest, I wasnt very high on the kid when he first committed. But, now Im really excited for him. Some people dont like the weight gain because they want a more traditional WR type player. I think the weight gain opens up so many other positions for UpChurch than just WR. Does he remind anyone else of Delanie Walker of the Titans, formerly of the 49ers? He reminds me so much of him. Walker played WR in college, but was in the 240 range. That allows him to play all over the field. Walker has lined up at WR, TE, RB, FB, and on the line at a tackle spot once or twice. Not to mention is a special teams stud with his rare combination of size, speed, and elite athleticism. Im looking forward to Upchurch playing the same type of role. Mismatch nightmare. Too fast for LBs, too physical and big for CBs. Just gotta find the right way to implement him in the playbook. With an NFL offensive mind like Cameron, we should have no problem getting him on the field and at diff spots. I actually think thats maybe 1 of the reasons why we take Upchurch over a guy like Anthony Jones. Sure, Jones is your prototypical TE with the size and pass catching ability. But, the 1 thing about Upchurch that is exremely rare is hes UNIQUE. There are a lot of guys that are great football players, but there arent a lot of guys that are unique football players and bring so much versatility to the table. But, Upchurch is 1 of them. Also kinda reminds of an Aaron Hernandez type player on the field. Dont jump on me for sayin that haha. Hes a great kid so dont gotta worry about that. Just saying Hernandez was 1 of the most unique NFL players to play the game in regards to how they used him and how good he was at each role. Unique is the best word to describe UpChurch and I cant wait for him to get here.
