IDPs seem to be a topic that causes a big divide with people...you love it or you hate it. Anyway, we've been running with IDPs for the past 6 or so years and I'm always looking to make it better.

My question: what IDP settings do you use? The aim, for me, is to make players equal. Of course, like offense with QBs, linebackers are generally more "powerful," but what type of scoring settings are ideal to get a reflection of how good a player is?

starting this year

is the key just plugging in a LB from a shitty offense team and just getting bread and butter tackles?

Depending on the scoring, IDP isn't going to win you a championship; there's not all that much difference in the ones that will actually be on rosters, from my understanding.

here are the settings that we use in the league I've played for the longest.

solo tackle .5
assisted tackle .25
QB Sack 4
Interception 7
Forced Fumble 3
Fumble Recovery 2
Defensive TD 6
Safety 2
Pass Defended 1
Blocked Kick 10

Julius Peppers was a beast in this league when we first switched over to IDP. He would usually block a few kicks each season when he played for Carolina, not to mention rack up QB sacks and forced fumbles.

I've gotten used to IDP but it took me awhile to get into it.

we used to do it but quit because it was random as frick only playing 1 IDP player (I didn't make the settings). I really think you need to can the team defense and play like 3-4 or at least one from every position (line, lb, secondary) and have it somewhat uniform.

I also think its dumb that in a lot of settings a tackle is worth 1 point but a sack is worth 2 and a TO 3. A tackle can be 20 yards down the field and give you half as much as sacking a qb for a 10 yard loss? I think the best way to do it is decrease the value for tackles to like .5 make sacks 2 or 3 and TOs 3 or 4.

why would a blocked kick or int be worth more than a TD?

Another good strategy is to always have an IDP on monday night. They never lay a complete egg.

beats the hell out of me. I wasn't one of the players that voted to have it switched to an IDP league anyway.

but its pretty cool when one of your guys picks it off and runs it back for a TD.

Janoris Jenkins did it twice in one game vs. the Cardinals last year

needless to say, I beat the frick out of that guy.

Most tards on here can't even master the offensive side of fantasy, much less the defense

what is funny about that leaguer is that it is an auction league too.

with so many players being auctioned off, it was hard to keep an attention span going.

I got Von Miller for next to nothing, shite was ridiculous.

Not necessarily. Depends on the settings - which is actually where I'm interested in seeing what others do.

We used to have tackles as two points or 1.5, but this past year we made the settings:

tackle - 1
assist - 0.5
TFL - 2.5
pass defensed - 1.5
sack - 3
interception- 5
forced fumble - 3
fumble recovery - 2
def TD - 6
safety - 2
blocked kick - 3

The basis behind our scoring system is to reward for impact plays. You get big points for a sack, a pick, and even a TFL - so the guys who make meaningful plays (J.J. Watt tackling everyone in the backfield) score big points over a linebacker who had 10 tackles - One friend has even suggested making tackles .5 or even 0 points to further that gap.

We also upped deflected passes to give corners who make a good play on the ball some love, to make coverage corners more meaningful (the Revis's and other cover corners are basically anti-fantasy football).

We start 5 IDPs of any position. We used to have 2 lb, 2 de, 2 dt...but the d lineman especially are too "random." but if you wait and miss out on some of the breakthrough players like J.J. Watt, a team could have a serious advantage over you (dude who had him in our league won...and J.J. Watt scored as well as his RBs from week to week.)

We used to do this at first as well, the scoring was based on frequency. There are far fewer safeties and blocked kicks, so when a player gets one, he should be rewarded. Usually, those are big moments in games so they should have some fantasy pull. But we eventually went down.

these were my Top 5 scorers on my defense last year. I won the league but I didn't even draft some of my key defenders.

Von Miller- 137.75 points (drafted)
Richard Sherman- 136.00 points (FA pick up)
Daryl Washington- 115. 50 points (drafted)
Janoris Jenkins- 112. 25 points (FA pick up)
Julius Peppers- 86.75 points (FA pick up)

-had some great luck with Janoris Jenkins pick up. I got him a few days before they played the Cardinals who were starting some jobber for the first time in his career. With shitty pass protection up front for the Cards, I figured it would be like shooting fish in a barrel. I had a good feeling he would get an interception. But he ran back both picks for scores as mentioned before. I was just super lucky that week, and really all year
