Just finished the first season of the wire last night. Thanks to everyone for recommending it. Also, I am not sure where they are going to go with the next few seasons. Obviously stringer takes over next year but what about the cops? Does the same cast come back together?

The cast is pretty consistent throughout. But keep in mind that each season focuses on a different part of Baltimore. So season two isn't all about the Barksdale organization; it's about the docks. Season three is about corrupt government. Four is the school system. Five is print media.

If you know that going into them, you'll be less disappointed when the focus shifts off of the Barksdales.

Mostly the same cast every season. The biggest difference is Season 4 the guy who plays McNulty takes some time off so he's in the backseat for most of it.

I assume you mean the police cast. Is the Barksdale organization in the next few seasons at all or does the criminal cast just change each season?

Serious question: Why do you want to know what happens before you watch it?

I don't, just want to know who is going to be in it.

For the most part, when they introduce a new character, they will at least let you know once or twice in the future seasons what they are up to. Some are still main players throughout the show.

No.

The cast of the show is pretty much the same through all five seasons. What I'm saying is that each season has a specific focus. Season one is the drug trade, for example, which is why you get all up in the Barksdale organization. The other seasons don't focus on that; they focus on other parts of B'more. However, the storylines remain throughout the series. So for example, you'll see the Barksdales throughout the other seasons, they just won't be the main focus of the seasons and will be more in the background so to speak. But everything is sort of intertwined together and related, and it all makes sense in the end.

To be honest, I feel like you're asking a really weird question...just keep watching and you'll see what I mean about how each season has a different "main plot" but they all tie together to the same overarching plots.

Why? It's like wanting to check out a character list before reading the next book in a series. The show will explain everything to you.

The 2nd Season was my favorite. Yes, I am well aware that a majority of you rank the 2nd season as one of the worse.

Just finished it, myself, a week or so ago. Started on season 2 and it hasn't let me down yet.

Good to hear. I am going to start it when I finish the Sopranos in a couple of weeks.

Season 2 might be the most underrated season in television.

Just started season 3 today myself. Looking forward to the political angle of this season with Littlefinger from GoT. The dock stuff didnt interest me as much as the first season. Wasn't bad, I just think the first was one of the best seasons of television I've ever seen. Season 2 had too little Omar, so I hope he is back in a major way this season.

Also, Bunk is my favorite character so far. Dude is hilarious.

Keep an open mind for season 2. A lot of people dislike it during their first viewing because they go away from Barksdale crew and to the docks.

It's one of my favorite seasons. It has a ton of great characters.
