Loved Band Of Brothers, have watched the whole series 3 times. Considered buying The Pacific, but don't know anyone that has seen it to offer reviews. Is that a bad sign? Seems like lots of heavy hitters were involved in the movie...Hanks, Spielberg.

Its not Band of Brothers but its still great and worth a watch for sure. Band of Brothers is better though.

FYI Hanks and Speilberg did Band of Brothers as well

I quit watching after 3-4 episodes. Everyone I know did the same. There was 1-2 really shitty episodes in a row and everyone quit watching.

Not as good, but watching John Basilone earn his Medal of Honor was really cool. "The Pacific" to "Band of Brothers" is like comparing the 2 theatres in WW2. The European will always hold our interests a bit more.

As long as you don't insist on comparing it to BoB you will enjoy it. After watching I was pumped enough to pay for the meal of a veteran I randomly was next to at a restaurant.

OP, do yourself a favor and pay no attention to this guy. The Pacific was very good. Don't try to compare it to BoB.

It was good but they just completely missed the boat to me on making it entertaining over 10 episodes. Most of it dragged on and I had to struggle to get through some of it.

You and everyone you know must have bad taste in film. This series was great. No, it was not Band of Brothers; nor should it be compared as such. The Pacific stands alone as a WW2 epic series and the heroes that lived the experience, received the proper on film portrayal that they richly deserved. OP, do yourself a favor and watch a great series that Spielberg and Hanks put together and you won't regret it. If you enjoy history as much as I do, you should love it.

I think it's kind of underrated because everybody thinks they need to compare it to band of brothers. If you go in without trying to do that, then it's a very enjoyable mini series.

It wasn't bad and had some great moments. But I don't feel any desire to rewatch it. Whereas I've watched BoB several times and if I came across it flipping channels I'd watch it again in a heartbeat.

I'd recommend the source books for The Pacific - With the Old Breed by Sledge and Helmet for My Pillow by Leckie. Good reading

The airstrip episode alone is worth watching the entire series.
Like others have said not as good as band of brothers but worth a watch.

Ditto. I was dissapointed and thought it compensated for a weak storyline by playing up the graphic violence. I am pretty well versed on the war in the Pacific...less so in Europe..so I was looking for more charecter development, like BoB. Father-in-law and uncle fought in the Pacific, so I have lots of first-hand accounts.

Two very different wars, two excellent series. I'm making my wife watch BoB. I wouldn't try to make her watch Pacific. It's just not as easy to watch as BoB.

But you should very much see it. HBO did a great job.

Not "Band of Brothers", nor quite as good. But given the high bar BOB established, it's still excellent.

It was a different war than Europe...dirtier, more savage, with a racial component. The miniseries stands on it's own in that regard.
