What are your guys secrets? looking to hit some areas known for good catches (qty and quality), both lakes and rivers.

What times do you guys find the most active hits?
anything particular you look for in the water (hiding areas, etc.)?
what baits do you have the most luck with, and how do you rig it? (worms a foot under a float, etc)

When its hot I fish deep structure with crickets, just jook and weight. I actually reverse crank the cricket down slowly. When you find them, there will be many.

When you catch one, stop and fish that spot for a few more minutes. I have my best luck finding beds. Fish them til the action slows then move on. Cone back after an hour or so and you can hit the same beds.

I use tube jigs (blue/white, black/chart, red/white) about 16-18 in under a cork.

Crickets are my bait of choice by a mile. I use an ultralight spinning rig with 4lb test almost exclusively.

Find eddy spots on the sides of the rivers and creeks. They like structure also. The small fish will be near the top so if they are gathered sometimes you have to get your bait down deep quickly to put it in front of the bigger fish.

Humps in impoundments. 8-14' of water. Cricket above bell sinker. Been doing well around here the last few years. Bonus chinqs and a cat or three also.
