Anyone else see similarities between Crannogmen and Louisiana natives?

-lizard-lions and alligators
- similar environment
- belief in weird magic like voodoo
- small wiry builds but strong
- thought to be crazy by the outside world

Could GRRM have based them off of us?

I've noticed a lot of similarities between Westeros and the USA.

The North = North/Northeastern USA - cold
The Vale = The Appalachian area of the US
King's Landing = DC - capital of the land, on the East coast
Dorne = Florida - Southeastern peninsula, warm weather
The West/Casterly Rock = The West coast, driven by gold
Iron Islands = Hawaii
Beyond the Wall = Canada

I'd say the Iron Isles are more like the Pacific NW/Canada/Alaska

But Jojen Reed went to a Hooters in BR! Does that count for anything?

I definitely think GRRM based Crannogmen off of Louisianians.

I see more similarities between Westeros and Europe particularly the UK than I do the US

Indeed, GRRM drew from the War of the Roses for some inspiration and I want to say he did drew some inspiration from some "wall" built in Europe for the Wall.

Hadrian's Wall was built by the Roman Emperor of the same name to divide Roman Britain from tribal Scotland. Hadrian believed that the Roman Empire had grown too large and that any further expansion would cause it's collapse, so he set about "fixing" the borders of Rome. From then on, Rome never expanded beyond the Danube into Germany, beyond Mesopotamia into Persia, or beyond Hadrian's wall into the barbaric lands of the Celts and Picts.

Its mentioned that Greywater Watch can't be found to be attacked because it moves. So, mobile homes out in the marsh.

And they actually eat frogs and lizard lions.
