Basically, yes. There were some honest apparitions that were spirits, but most of them was just MIB manipulating people to do his bidding.

Wasn't there like two guys in a siberia type location on the other computer, and like started freaking out when someone was on it. Also maybe they called and penny's dad the real rich guy?

I definitely might be getting it confused with a completely different movie/tv show. or just making it all up. I just snapped out of a really weird dream and not thinking straight yet.

I really need to rewatch Lost. Its amazing how little I remember about it after only a few years.

No those guys were simply looking for the Island. How would they know about Walt and Michael's relationship to him?

The Smoke was everything, everyone, and every event.
The Smoke saw all, knew all, and heard all. It was a tool, a guard, a mind, a demi-god, and an architect.

The Smoke Monster was nothing and everything.




















In short the Smoke Monster was a convenient tool that writers could use to get themselves out of any ridiculous plot point that they needed to.

Seriously...go back and look at his shoes.

I know he had the white shoes because Jack didn't want to buy a new pair for him but what's that have to do with Christian on the boat? They didn't even show his feet on the boat.
