And for the love of god, you don't have him making out with Lois with the city in smoldering ruins around him. That part was unforgivable (and stupid to boot)

Agreed.....he should have bent her over and given her the super dick!

In Superman's defense. This was his first fight against intergalactic beings. He had just gone through what was probably the most stressful event of his life. When the battle is seemingly over, and you have a hot chick standing right in front of you who would like nothing more than to climb in bed with you, you might just forget about all of your cares for a moment and kiss her.

No, Superman is much more than that.

He's not just any ordinary red blooded male. He's literally the most perfect human being ever. Destruction makes Superman upset and he really feels like he has the weight of the world on his shoulders. For as calm and optimistic as Supes can be, he really feels responsible for the safety of person on the planet and when an event like this happens, he can't help but feel he's the culprit.

He's one of the best ideas humanity has ever had and it's because of that, he transcends acting typically like any other men would do.

And it would kill her!

A cumshot from him would be like a machine gun blowing her head off.

Actually it does. What does Superman do when his morality and perfection is challenged by a great villain and/or catastrophic event and he's forced to reexamine himself?

Kinda like what happened with TDK and the Joker.

ETA: one good example already out there is the animated flick titled Superman vs. The Elite. It's not the same kind of Superman from MoS but the concept of such a story is all the same.

That was so unbelievably cliche and campy/corny but it didn't ruin the movie. Superman should've been fricking upset and in despair over the destruction and a make out session should've been the last thing on his mind.

it didn't ruin, the movie but it did tarnish their version of Superman and more importantly, it ruined the Lois/Superman love story.

You ruined their first kiss on that??? You can make this movie showing that there's obviously a connection but what that connection is, is up for interpretation and clarified in movie 2 after a 'will they won't they?' scenario. That's how you tell love stories.

You don't have a character who moves the plot along and is there for inexplicable reasons kiss Superman after his brutal fight when he has work left to do.

It was just so poorly done in that regard that I still have a bad taste in my mouth. I love the movie, but I think it'll be hard for them to recover from that in the next movie.

Now was it Superman's battle that caused all this destruction, or was it the World Engine trying to change the topography and atmosphere?

Aside from the blatant advertising (ihop, sears, 7/11) an a few cheesy lines and the first 5 minutes of the movie (shitty rear screen projection) I liked this movie

If aliens invade earth, there are going to be serious casualties. Those numbers are not bad compared to what was at stake.
