Trey Burke vs. Greivis Vasquez

Based on Mock Drafts and the beat around here it looks like there is a decent chance we end up with Burke Thursday night.
Can some of you more knowledgeable guys inform me why we are taking Burke when we have GV?
I see an improvement in scoring but don't see it in passing or defense. Am I wrong?
Also if we take Burke, what happens to Rivers?

Burke is a better all around player, though probably still not to all-star level.
Rivers isn't any good, but he's best served as a combo guard and hopefully a solid bench scoring option. So Burke doesn't really affect him.

Yeah dog, I don't think we are going with a point guard first. C or sf. Burke will be 3,4 or 7-10.

I think if you take Burke, we need to trade GV because his trade value is as high as it will ever be and we are giving up on the Rivers experiment.
Seems crazy when we have obvious issues at SF and Center.

GV is very bad on defense. In addition, even though he can score a bit, he really does not break down defenses and takes too long to get the offense going. That said, I am not sold on Burke either.

It is literally impossible to be worse than GV on defense. Burke has also shined brightest when the lights are on. I think the athleticism aspect of his game is greatly overblown. There is no way that he isn't a better athlete than GV. GV is a better scorer, but he can't run an offense worth a flying crap. It's just dribble dribble dribble dribble, 5 secs, oh crap.

Burke is about 6 inches shorter but is way more athletic, quicker, faster, better ball handles, better stroke, current star power and can actually get to the rim. All of that can lead to him scoring+high assist.

they are acquiring assets
GV isnt good enough for us to turn down a talented young player like Burke

Side thought: would you trade Burke and EG for Dragic and Oladipo

Make that three for no. Both would almost certainly be downgrades in both the near and long terms.

Really? That must mean that GV just sits down at half court on defense waiting for the other 4 guys to get the ball back, because that's conceivably about as bad as you can do on defense while still being on the floor. I've never seen him sit on the floor and wait to get the ball back.
