The plan was to camp on the lunch counter on Adams at 9k feet. Be ready to go at 4 am, summit and get down before the incoming weather moved in.
Well....that weather moved in 8 hours earlier than expected. We woke to rain at 3 am and knew we weren't going to summit. Slept til 6 and it was still raining and we were in a whiteout. Couldn't see any further than 10 feet. Packed up and navigated our way down via gps. We could see pretty well once at around 7500 feet.
All in all it was a great time, awesome views from camp. Round trip cut short but was still 9.4 miles and 3700 feet of elevation gain.
Lots of evidence of last years cold springs fire.
Some awesome glissade chutes, we hit every one....
Pikers peak, false summit. 2400 feet of elevation gain in a mile and a half.
Mt. St. Helens

Cool pics.
I'm about to book my flight for Rainier climb in August. Will shoot you an email. Maybe we can grab a beer.

Even mountains that aren't technical but just a brutal hike are fun as hell. Cooking good meals, drinking bourbon, and smoking all whilst in the wild is just a blast to me.
