Felix had the lead with about 75M left but Duncan tracked her down.

Was going to post this earlier. She ran a great race knocking off the defending gold medalist.

With Felix defeated and Sanya Richards succumbing to Father Time, it seems that the woman who Larry Rawson called the "Darling of Collegiate Sprinting" is the heir apparent to the throne of American pro sprinting. A new queen has arrived and her name is Kimberlyn Duncan. Long live the queen!

Thanks for the video and congrats Duncan! That kick down the stretch was amazing.

I played hs football, baseball and ran track (100m, 200m and relays) and to this day, the biggest sports rush I ever felt was running someone down in the 200m on the kick.

The "kick" was an illusion created by the fact that Duncan decelerated less than Felix in the homestretch. In distance races, it's common for runners to kick (speed up) on the bell lap, but in the sprints (100, 200 and 400), everyone decelerates in the second half of the race.

Sprinters male or female are always fun to watch. Zero wasted movement, and they look like they're gliding.

Re:, "kick", I understand what your saying and don't necessarily disagree with you if we're really getting down to specific terminology. True kicks are a better used term for distance races where there's a noticeable difference in running speed in the last leg of a race. But kicking is a term that we still used when I used to run the 200m. I always felt faster and more amped up running the last 100m in the straightaway than the first in the curve, i.e. my kick.

And the deceleration isn't true. In fact, if you look at a lot of split times, many run the 2nd 100m faster because it's in the straightaway as opposed to the 1st 100m all in the curve. Example below.

2009 IAAF WAC 200m - everyone ran faster splits in the 2nd 1/2 of the 200m

I know you know better than this. They run the second 100 faster than the first 100 because the first 100 includes the start and the reaction to the gun. If you broke the 200 down into four 50-meter segments, you would find that the fastest segment for all elite 200 runners is the 50-100 segment. The 100-150 segment is always slower than the 50-100 segment and the 150-200 segment is always slower than the 100-150 segment. All world class 100 and 200 sprinters reach peak speed between 55 to 65 meters into the race. After that, they're decelerating all the way to the finish line. Even the link you provided shows that.

Good point. You are correct as I didn't account for that. I so apologize for using the term "kick" inadequately enough that you felt the need to "correct" it. I'll try to do better next time, k?

I thought Allyson Felix's front teeth crossed before Duncan. Guess not.

Congrats.

BamaTiger, I was a high school sprinter and we called it "kick" as well. Technically, correct or not, you're right. There is nothing that compares to that rush.

Oh, and GEAUX Duncan!

To be precise in our language, rhetorically he's right, but technically he's wrong.
