How would Spurrier have done if he came to LSU in 2005?

At the time, I would have probably considered cutting all ties with LSU.

If spurrier was hired?

Why?

Just because he was an nfl failure doesn't mean he's a college failure. That's the same as Saban and Miami.

I've always thought he was the epitome of sleaze, maybe we've both mellowed with age though. And maybe the sting of sleaze would have been lessened by winning a couple of NC's. Who knows?

LSU and Florida would have had some epic games. Wait, they did.

I guess nothing much would be different.

Well I think best case scenario is equalling what Les has done, so I guess it worked out.

Would the spurrier O have been better?

Conversely would the D have sucked? Can't see Chief working with Spurrier.

He's done better at South Carolina than Holtz did, if that tells you anything.

South Carolina is a legitimate contender for the SEC Championship because of Spurrier.

I'm sure we would have been very successful under him.

Chavis didn't come around until 09. Like hell Spurrier was going to hire Tennessee's D coordinator, anyways.

What 2005 thread is next today? :boobs:

Assuming that he would've hired a good DC, I think we would've won the National Championship in 2006. As good as Jamarcus was in 2006, I think Spurrier would've had that offense at another level. So many weapons. No way he leaves Jordan Hare with only 3 points.

I think he would have done about the same overall, not much better. For those the get frustrated the we could have won another NC or 2, remember for all his success at Florida he "only" won 1 NC and was very lucky to get that one.

Personality-wise, how would Spurrier have handled the hurricane season? Had we won it all in 2011, that takes this away, but I still contend that 2005 was Les' best coaching job by far (cue the Saban's players bit).

Just the way he held that team together through everything.... makes it all the more confusing as to how we have so many prima donnas now. Anyway, just a shame they ran out of gas in the SECCG

Things would have been very different, he would have a different staff, would have some different recruits. Overall I'm sure he would have done well, but we've won 80% of our games with Miles, not much room for improvement.

the big question is would he have been able to get Jerry Rice as WR coach?

Saban was a better NFL coach than Spurrier. Not sure how he would fared if he had remained in the bigs but the w/l record wasn't terrible, especially considering what he walked into
