How many TVs in the typical house?

I was talking to a directtv salesperson about switching from cable the other day. They asked how many TVs are in my house after I told them we have 3 kids. When I said 1 she looked at me like I was from another planet. She then tried to offer me a multiple tv deal anyway and said I should go ahead and buy another tv. It was odd. I just don't really want a tv in my bedroom, and I really don't want one in kids bedrooms. Is it that abnormal?

I'd say it's not particularly normal, wouldn't say abnormal. When I was growing up my sister and I each had TVs in our own rooms after a certain age, also had 3 other TVs in the house in the kitchen, den, and small guest bedroom my parents did most of their tv watching in.
Right now my roommate and I have 3 TVs between the two of us, one in the living room area and one in each of our rooms.
I'd say you're definitely in the minority outside of single occupant apartments or houses most likely.
Are your kids really young or something? Not sure how you could get away with that without having massive bitching. Would seem to be a pain in the butt if you are wanting to watch some sports or a movie and the kids or wife are wanting to watch something else.

No teenagers yet. But I never had one in my room until college. I'll probably get another someday if I have an extra common room other than our living room, but I won't let them have their own TVs.

Prepare for having your kids spend a ton of time at their friends houses I guess. I mean, I'm one of the biggest readers you'll ever see (both now and back in high school), and was a very good student. But I still spent a ton of time playing video games and watching sports on TV in addition to playing sports.
I guess computers or Ipads would be more the thing these days though. I really don't watch that much TV outside of sports anyway though, mostly just use the computer. I could probably go without cable altogether if it wasn't for college football, just stream the 8-9 TV shows I watch throughout the year.

We have 3 (media room, living room, and bar/breakfast room). The one in the living room never gets turned on.
I refuse to have a TV in the bedroom.

Two of us, two TVs... one in the living room and one in the spare bedroom.
I'm not a fan of having a TV in my bedroom.

I have 3. 1 in the living room, 2 in the garage/man cave. One in the man cave is my computer monitor, the other is my projector.
I refuse to have anything in the bedroom. If I'm not reading, then I'm sleeping.

I have three kids as well and there is only one tv in my house. Just one big screen in the living room. The only other place i would consider having one is in my bedroom. I don't want tvs in the kids rooms.

I have a TV in the main room of the apartment (mine) and my roommate has an 8 year old HDTV in his room and I have a little tiny tv in my bedroom that isn't even plugged into the wall.
ETA: No need for TV in kids rooms. I let my 2 1/2 year old take the ipad to bed once in a while, if he's been good and its a weekend. He ends up playing angry birds or something instead of watching a movie then I have to go take it away after like 30 min so he'll go to sleep.

Not abnormal. We don't have any in the bedrooms, but damn near every other room in the house has a tv.
I would say the avg household has 3 tvs.

I live by myself and have 6.
Two in my living room...my 65" plasma and then my old TV by the fireplace so I can watch multiple things at once if I want to, or watch something while I play Xbox.
Two in my guest bedroom (one isn't hooked up...I will give it away or donate it at some point).
Two in my bedroom.
I could be fine with only two (1 BR, 1 LR), but happen to have a lot. Eventually I'll be getting another huge screen one and making a media room out of my third bedroom.
