Terrible advice if you are talking about true blades

re: Just started playing golf

So I'm on phase II of golf.

Been playing for over a year I'm consistently in the low 80's but I've got really shitty clubs. (Ok just kidding I'm 100-110 usually)

I've got Ram Irons and Golfmate Wedges, my sand wedge I can rub off metal shavings, so first of all what's the danger in using irons/wedges with little to no grooves? What should I jump to as far as clubs go? Should I get fitted and go new or should I find some good used clubs through Ebay? (i'm a lefty)

Better yet, get some old hickory shaft clubs from the 1940s and play with those until you can break par, then start using normal clubs.

re: Just started playing golf

Why are you guys so amazed at his score?

I've only played maybe 10 times in my life, and I shoot in the 90's. I shot over 100 a few times.

In fact, I just found an old score card the other day where I shot 97. I was 1 over on every hole except for one hole where I got like a 9.

What were you guys shooting your first several times out?

Virtually impossible for all of this to be true.

Most people don't keep accurate score their first times out

But if they did, it's probably around 120-130

Unless the 9 was on a par 1, that doesn't add up. And you didn't make bogey on every hole except one playing 10 times in your life.

re: Just started playing golf

As a beginner, I would say spend more time on the driving range and putting green than you do on the course. As you get better and better, start spending more and more time on the course. Also, don't worry about trying to work the ball both ways. Find the ball flight that you feel most comfortable with and stick with it. You will be much more consistent that way. Once you have been playing for a while, you can start trying to hit draws and fades on command.

which is where I would have landed on 18 my first day

I made tally's on my card after every hit. I want to be able to see my improvement.

I'm about to go play a par 3 course

Or he was playing on a par 75 course.

I just signed up for CC through my work that includes the Driving range and access to the par 3 course. Limited access to the 2 other 18 hole courses.

I was thinking I would go hit 200 balls then play a few holes

No one is doubting your score now that you said it was 9 holes

Because beginning golfers have a way of forgetting to count all their strokes, and adding their penalty strokes.

No offense but I'm willing to bet there are numerous people on this board that would be more than happy to bet you $100 you couldnt legitimately break 100 if you have truly only played 10x in your life. It can and has been done but most beginning golfers realistically shoot 110+

I don't remember exactly. I was 1 over on just about every hole except for one hole that I did terrible on.

re: Just started playing golf

I kept an accurate score my first few times I shot a 77 on the front 9 once. I was routinely in the 150's that first month.

Sounds like a lot of balls

If you hit when you're tired, you'll develop bad habits IMO

Not to mention driving OB off the tee box which I still do on a regular basis.

I hit the ball extremely straight. Problem is that it tends to be hit low and I rely on rolls. Up hill drives have given me the biggest problems

Seriously. I'm been playing since 2005 or so. Not as much as I like, and I can occasionally get in the 80's if I play consistently for a while. If I haven't played in a while, it's, more like 90's and the occasion 100+

I'm not the best, but I make solid contact with all my clubs and have an OK short game. These people making these ridiculous claims have no idea just how ridiculous it is to claim you can shoot bogey golf after only 10 rounds.
