Congress panel widens probe of IRS 'Tea Party' scrutiny

quote:

(Reuters) - Congressional investigators probing the U.S. Internal Revenue Service's scrutiny of conservative political groups will interview a key Washington IRS official on Friday and want to speak with as many as 20 more people, sources told Reuters on Thursday.

IRS lawyer Carter Hull will be deposed by congressional lawyers on Friday, said sources close to the Republican-controlled House of Representatives committee taking the lead in an inquiry that involves several panels on Capitol Hill.

At least one Cincinnati IRS official not previously interviewed was called in to speak with investigators this week, according to a congressional committee source involved in the inquiry.

The House Oversight and Government Reform Committee has identified about 20 more officials for future interviews, another source close to the process said.

Leaders of the House committee have been squabbling all week about whether to release full transcripts of the interviews their staffers have done.

Committee Chairman Darrell Issa, a Republican, first released selected excerpts from some interviews on June 2. He was criticized for that by Elijah Cummings, the committee's top Democrat, for "cherry picking" statements to prove there was political involvement.

Cummings on Sunday unveiled his own selected excerpts, including comments from an IRS manager in Cincinnati who described himself as a "conservative Republican."

Cummings said the interview showed the screening of conservative groups originated in Cincinnati office and called on Issa to release the full transcripts completed thus far.

To respond to Issa's contention that doing so would compromise the investigation, Cummings proposed Issa redact portions that would interfere with the investigation by Monday.

(As seen in the second post) That was Elijah Cummings he said it was over then cherry-picked testimony that defied any ties to Washington. He reverted back to rogue workers in Ohio-he is so desperate to hack for Obama.

VB gonna VB.

Can you IMAGINE if the deposed testimony from the DC attorney said to be the micro manager of this, were leaked by Issa; what Cummings and VB would do?

He could have been given whistle blower status to spare himself jail. ruh roh!

If you mean accurately posting what the testimony of that witness was, then yes.

I would love that his testimony be made public or be leaked in its entirety. Unlike you, I've been saying all of this should be made public from the beginning.

I have no idea what this means.

And you're an attorney?

WEAK.

Where have I ever said none or any of this should be made public? No where. The deposed DC attorney named in the article MAY be given whistle-blower status. So it is not for an Obama boot licker like yourself, or me or anyone else to judge legalities of testimony being leaked. Cummings cherry-picked leaks that was wrong, as an attorney should know. But instead of the facts you and Cummings seem to want to paint Issa the boogie man.

Issa is grasping at straws. This, too, will amount to nothing like what you wish.

It's quite obvious to anybody what happened, but Republicans don't care for facts and are seeking any little angle they can bend into a "scandal". It really is quite pathetic.

A quick question: do you want for an investigation to prove that Obama used the IRS as his own personal political tool?

i want an investigation to prove that this wasn't just a few rogue agents, that it actually went much higher than that, and that the administration lied......again.

and it's looking like all 3 of the above are true.

I never said you did. I said I said it should be made public and you haven't said so.

Who said he "MAY" be given whistle-blower status or that he even asked for it? You make shite up as you go along.

I've never judged the legality of testimony being leaked. I want the testimony to be leaked.

Um McFly, Issa cherry picked testimony. He leaked part of the transcript which is cherry picked. Cummings released the entire transcripts of two witnesses. You can say he cherry picked witnesses, which he did but he didn't cherry pick their testimony.
quote:

But instead of the facts you and Cummings seem to want to paint Issa the boogie man.
Never said he was. Only said it was suspicious that he cherry picked certain testimony from certain witnesses without letting us seeing the rest of their testimony. Cummings at least allowed us to see the testimony in its entirety.

That is like asking me if I want a seated President to lie, attack and audit his opponents. Of course not. Do I think he is-YES. In 2010 the tea party scared the ever loving crap out of Obama and proggies.

Why did Lois plead the fifth?

The Tea Party was an annoyance and a source of humor. They didn't scare anyone. It proved that there were a lot of angry middle aged white people who couldn't spell very well.

I'm 99% certain we will never see any evidence directly linking this to Obama. Even if there is evidence, we'll never see it. Plenty of reason to believe he's behind it in some fashion, but it's unlikely it'll ever be proven.

The republicans need to stop trying to make this case and focus on the GLARING ISSUE:

The CRIMINAL AND REPREHENSIBLE CONDUCT OF THE ENTIRE IRS, not just in this case, but since it's inception.

The IRS needs to be held accountable for once, the Republicans and Democrats need to stop making this a partisan issue, it's so much bigger than that.

Like you , Cummings is a political hack who does the bidding of the president.

Lets reason with an unbiased mindset what congressional oversight is and what its effort is designed to do.

A congressional hearing that leads to a determination that an congressional investigation is a huge step and not to be taken lightly.

A congressional investigation is an effort to get to facts in an “ end game ” determination of all the facts.

A law enforcement investigation is an likewise effort.Could anyone imagine a law official releasing ALL of his information he gets from those questioned , so that the targeted criminals would know exactly what to say and what not to say when they are questioned ? That investigator would be stupid and should be fired.

Do criminal investigators leak certain info to flush out the truth and/or to get people to come forward ? Yes all the time.

Remember , this is an investigation not a trial where the accused is then given due process and discovery.

What this big fat POS did was say to America , this is a trial not an investigation , this is a political witch hunt and Issa is being unfair yak yak yak , and suckers like VB either falls for this BS or is being purposely untruthful.

This was a move by this communist congressman to fiegn indignation , then release ALL the investigated materials so as all the yet to be questioned subjects would not be in the dark.

For this big fat POS to imply that investigations don't leak partial info during investigations and then to use this , to justify his SIGNALLING the people being investigated with knowledge they shouldn't be party to is an outrage and this POS should be forced off this committee.

Anyone who fell for this BS is a DUMBAZZ.

You start off by saying let's look at this unbiased then you call Cummings a communist fat POS and fault him for leaking and ignore Issa leaking. And you call me a hack.
