Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed it. There are definitely a number of scenes that had me laughing my arse off. But it is a pretty disjointed and poorly made film. It's mostly them just sitting around doing stupid shite. Again, it's funny, but it's not the funniest movie I've ever seen like so many people on here want you to believe. And if it is the funniest movie you've ever seen, I recommend you take a look at some of the classic comedies out there, from Caddyshack to Caddyshack 2.

I'll admit I was a bit disappointed by This Is The End. I don't really know why I was (probably had too high of expectations), but I walked out feeling a bit underwhelmed.

I saw it today too. It was your typical Rogen and crew movie, but I like them and their brand of humor. There were plenty of laughs for me.

I don't think I've seen one person make this claim

so people should stop giving their opinion on the movie if it's positive?

Dude, like 80% of the movie is improvised. Of course it's going to be disjointed. They're not overly concerned in the moment of contradicting stuff, they just want to say and do something funny in-character. I'd say most the greatest comedies of all time are disjointed and typically aren't as formulaic and just ridiculous. I went to the movie to see these guys play off each other as an exaggerated version of themselves, and they did it pretty perfectly.

And no one has been saying this. I think its the funniest movie in the past 2 or maybe 3 years, but that's about it.

Allow me to quote some people:

quote:

I haven't laughed that much in a theatre in a very long time. The entire cast was hilarious

quote:

Saw it last night and it was the hardest I have laughed in a theater in a long time

quote:

I have legitimately not laughed more in a movie than This is the End. It was hilarious from start to finish. Best comedy of the year easily.

quote:

I loved it, funniest movie I've seen in awhile

quote:

Danny mcbride made me almost cry with laughter

quote:

Just got back from seeing this. Absolutely awesome movie. Would pay to see it again in theaters.

quote:

One of the funniest movies I've seen

quote:

Awesome movie. The funniest movie I've seen in a while.

quote:

The Terrence Peterson monkey key chain was literally the funniest thing to me. I laughed til I literally cried. I don't even know why. I couldn't type this without laughing about it.

quote:

Just finished it, was frickING HILARIOUS

quote:

You need to start paying attention because it's the best comedy of the year

AGAIN, I'm not saying it wasn't funny, but I feel like people are giving false impressions of the movie and as a result guys like TheLankiestLawyer come out disappointed.

Plus, it's just not as good as you crazy bastards are saying it was. As OMLandshark said, 80% of it was improvised. Even if that number is off by 20% in either direction, it doesn't excuse the fact that the movie just wasn't well put together. Most of the scenes were one off scenes that didn't contribute much if anything to an already skeletal plotline. That doesn't mean the whole scene with Danny McBride and James Franco yelling at each other wasn't funny, or the scene with Michael Cera slapping Rihanna's arse and her absolutely slapping the shite out of him didn't get a laugh out of me, it just means people are hyping this movie up like they did the Hangover and people who haven't seen it yet are going to hate it.

As for you, Dr RC, if someone says classic comedies followed by "from Caddyshack to Caddyshack 2," you can pretty much bank on the fact that adding Caddyshack 2 behind Caddyshack is a goddamn joke.

Lacour, your opinion is so often disregarded on this board for a reason.

To all the rest of you who really loved this movie, I'm glad you did. If you think it was the best comedy in the past 3 years, fantastic. I think you're crazy. But I wasn't a Pineapple Express fan, either, so perhaps I should just give up on Seth Rogen's humor. That said, I did enjoy Superbad a lot. So who knows?

CSB/TL;DR

Plenty of people have claimed it to be one of the best comedies ever or in the past several years to warrant my admittedly slightly exaggerated characterization of people's opinions on the movie.

It was funny, but not so great that it will live up to the hype people are giving it.

frick you Dr RC and Lacour.

If you liked it, bully for you.

WHERE ARE THESE PEOPLE

Its like you completely ignored the "in a while" qualifier at the end of every quote

You have one quote that's even close to that

quote:

people who haven't seen it yet are going to hate it.

zero fricks given

So since you didn't like it, so no one else who did should say anything good about it?

Where's your reading comprehension? The full quote is this:

quote:

Plenty of people have claimed it to be one of the best comedies ever or in the past several years to warrant my admittedly slightly exaggerated characterization of people's opinions on the movie.

A couple said it was funniest they'd seen in a while, a couple said it was the funniest they'd seen in a long time. Others said it was one of the funniest ever (I have legitimately not laughed more in a movie than This is the End; One of the funniest movies I've seen).

Regardless, people are blowing it out of proportion. Feel free to do so. As Fearthehat implied, people should be free to give their opinions of a movie, but (a) your opinions are terrible, and (b) you're ruining a decently funny movie for people who haven't seen it yet.

Didn't say I didn't like it. If I had said that, I would have gone with the typical hyperbole of this board and said this: "This is the End is the most over-hyped assfest of a movie I've seen in the last half century."

quote:

so no one else who did should say anything good about it?

You're right, I suppose my thread title could be read as a directive to keep people from anything good about it. Whatever. You're free to do what you want. I was trying to inject some sanity into what is quickly becoming a magnificent fanbase.

This is quite a bit better and more ambitious than the Hangover was. From a production standpoint, it's a miracle they were allowed to make this film. The studio was very vocal on the movie not being the actors playing themselves, but then you might as well not even do it since that's where the heart of the humor derives from.

Then you got the fact that they got all these guys together. Honestly, it's about as close as we're going to get to "It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World" at least for a while. Pretty much everyone they wanted to get, they got, as brief as it may have been. And they managed to do this pretty cheaply at $30 million, which including the effects makes it even more impressive. Compare this to an Adam Sandler film, which get like a budget of $80 million and no one on set clearly gives a shite. I think you have to respect that when you put such an all-star comedic cast together.

Apparently his is the end all opinion, and anyone who doesn't think what he does is plain wrong. Let's all bow down to the great one.
