I'm not looking to spend a lot because I don't saltwater fish a ton, but don't want to go and buy junk either. I'll be using it for specs and reds mostly and want a set up that I can really cast far. What's the best set up for the money?

Spincast or spinning reel?
Spincast is like the old (not so) reliable Zebco 33.

Shimano Sedona reel with a castaway or Allstar rod, $100 - $120. Cheapest I would go.

I'd say go buy a cheap Quantum combo, but it probably wouldn't last you a year.

I went with a pen and went ahead and got the 2 year warranty. I spend about $130.

I picked up 2 okuma reels the other day. One for $39.99 and the other for $24.99. They aren't the best but I have been impressed so far for what I paid for them.

Here you go
Sedona combo with rod for $100.00 at cabelas. Pretty good value.
I also have had good experience with the Okumas. They aren't the smoothest but I have a few of their $40.00 reels that I use for surf fishing that have held up impressively for much longer than I expected.

Get a penn.
The guide I fished with this morning had 18 rods on his boat. Of the 18 rods, 18 of them had Penn spinning reels. I'm now a firm believer in their action. I was very skeptical of going fishing without my own tackle, but those worries were out to bed after the first 30 minutes. I will be purchasing a Penn or two for myself in the near future.
