re: Microsoft Employee talks about Xbox One

Did you even read the article? He ways microsofts goal is an Xbox based steam. Not just day 1 digital downloads. It's getting games to consumers on the cheap as well. That's the big picture.

I've read that every single game will be available day one digital on PS4.

They pretty much all are now, CoD because of it's Xbox deal was the only game I can remember that wasn't available digitally at midnight on release on the PS Store.

Did you read it? It says it will be a gradual process. Not gonna happen this generation.

PS3 already has Day 1 Digital downloads for big titles available to DL at midnight like Far Cry 3, AC3, and all EA Sports titles were.

PS3 with a PS+ subscription already uses the cloud to check and download system and game updates even when the console is off.

PS3 already allows you to download a game and play it while it downloads (TLOU debuts this tonight).

Steam is a lot more than that and you know it but you won't admit it because it bothers you that Xbox is trying to get a sysetm just like Steam onto console first.

PS4 will never be Steam like as long as they allow physical copies and the trade in market to hang around and artificially keep game prices high.

It also sounds like MS will be subsidizing publishers and devs to make this happen because they know the value of getting there 100% first and not having some people still on physcial copies and some still on digital. Sony doesn't have the financial luxury to do this and have now made too much of a promise to the world to go back in a few years and say we are going strictly Steam like.

Making a system like steam available on console and forcing it are two different things. Maybe it will be the future, but back in the day people bought consoles for the things that make them consoles.

Forcing the issue makes it a gimp PC. Just how I see it and I may be off-base.

And yet you were the one that acted like a day 1 digital release was the only thing that article was about. Whatever, fanboys gonna fanboy.

Not really no, you're just mad the PS3 has already had what the Xbox One is just now hoping to get.

Xbox One allows physical copies.

Again, Xbox One has physical copies, and Sony already has the big time devs releasing Day 1 Digital. Actually, every big time Dev.

Neither console is doing that, physical copies wil last this entire console generation for both platforms.

If this gen lasts 8 years like the current one there is no way they aren't 99.9% all digital by the end of it. Internet speeds will only get faster and service more and more people.

4G can support gaming if it wasn't for bandwidth caps.

I said the other day the One is a bridge to the next console of where they are going but that doesn't mean they won't have it all in place by the end of this console to make a smooth transition into the next one.

People hated Steam so much when it came out because the service was lacking but also because they hated the forced DRM. Look where it is today. People always hate change at first.

How is it a PC? A PC is not proprietary, is upgradable, and can do you know...PC stuff.

This is still a console in every sense except now your games are delivered digitally.

You continue to miss the big picture, Hog. Keep your head in the sand and enjoy those $60 physical copies.

You continue to turn your cheek at the facts.

Hey, I'm about to start my download for The Last of Us here in just a couple of hours, can play it as it downloads too.

Damn those physical copies!

re: Microsoft Employee talks about Xbox One

If I sounded like that, I didn't mean to. I have both consoles now, and I'll likely buy both of the new ones.

The point I was trying to make, is that both systems are trying to head to all digital. PS4 will allow you to download the game before release, and then unlock it at midnight on release. Just that alone will go a long ways towards getting away from physical copies. 8 or 10 years from now, people will be so used to that, it will be a much easier transition for the PS5 or whatever.

Because it's just about downloads and that's it!!!!!! No other value to Steam or a system like it at all except for the downloads.

Sometimes you leave little doubt you are Arky educated.

I agree, it's going to shift to digital. All the article basically lines out is that xbox wants to be the first to finish the race there. Whether that works or not, we'll see.

Yeah, that's how I see it, lol.

It's NOT

not proprietary, is upgradable, and can do you know...PC stuff.
but has DRM and must-install. Why do I buy this device for gaming?

how will it help them to finish the race there first if it hurts them getting there?

seems both systems will get there eventually but the way playstation is getting there is more user friendly.

<---getting both systems fwiw

That's what you are hammering home. Auto updates and the one other thing you mentioned still means you have no clue if you think that makes it comparable to what the article is speaking of and to what Steam is about. Like I said you miss the big picture. No biggie.

I am far from mad about any of this, buddy, and that was not so much a personal attack as much as it was an observation.

So DRM and must install will make you enjoy a game less? I am confused to what you are saying.

Then enlighten me on what else Steam does that the PS3 doesn't already do. I don't use steam much at all so being serious.

The PS3 already has digital downloads, and day 1 digital downloads from every major developer/game.

It already allows you to play the game as it downloads.

It already checks via the cloud for any updates to the system and your game library (physical and digital) and automatically downloads those updates whether the console is on or off.

Obviously, sells games, dlc, etc.

What else does Steam do that is so amazing?
