Meet the world's first baby bought with Bitcoins after the fertility treatments which led to her conception were paid for with the cult digital currency.
That's according to Dr C. Terence Lee, a California fertility specialist, who helped the child's parents pay for fertility treatments using Bitcoins.
The OB/GYN doctor, an Bitcoin enthusiast, is trying to encourage more patients to pay for his services using the currency.

bc I personally prefer my life savings to be in a currency that doesn't ever have weeks of 20%+ swings to the downside
other than that, bitcoins are cool
I couldn't sleep at night with $1M worth of bitcoins with the possibility of them being worth $750k within a few days. I don't run that risk with my awful FIAT

So short term fluctuations are more important to you than long term trends?
I guess you're cool with this too???

honestly if anyone sank $1M into bitcoins as "currency in april they're sitting on less than $500k today, meanwhile my USD are still worth what they were worth a month ago for the most part minus miniscule fluctations vs other currencies.
5000 bitcoins went from $1.3M to $550K since april
$1.3M US is still worth $1.3

What if they did that in January?

thats a big damn what if....people early to the show in a ponzi scheme usually make out alright, even madoff's early investors cashed out fine.
Meanwhile those who buy the USD late aren't suffering 50% swings to the downside in any month anytime soon

well, yea, obviously they'd be super well off.
but even if someone put $1 million into bitcoin in January 2013, they'd still be doing damn good.
$1,000,000 / $15 per bitcoin in January 2013 = 66666 bitcoins
66666 bitcoins x $109 (current price of a bitcoin) = $7,266,594

Why would a doctor accept bitcoins?
Should I put him in touch with Vols and Russian so that he can be become educated on the scam that they are?

frick I would pay him in bitcoin too if he offered me a "large discount". This wasn't a run of the mill transaction that will occur regularly. Doc manipulated the process to get the patient to pay him in bitcoin. The couple used USD to buy bitcoin, then paid doc. This isn't anything to get worked up about imo.

Bitcoins would be great to accept at a nightclub bc they're already here in miami selling $25 bottles of goose for $450 at clubs so why not. If someone pays me in 4 bitcoins and they fall to $20/coin again its cool
Unfortunately in the convenience store business im in, with razor thin margins, I can't take the chance of shedding 50% of my intake's value

I understand your concerns about the volatility, but volatility won't be the long term reality of bitcoin.
The funny thing is, you as a business owner can avoid the volatility by simply using bitcoin as a transaction network. Remember, bitcoin is not only a currency. It's also a transaction network.
In the convenience store business, you get raped on CC fees for all the small transactions you process. Your industry is actually hurting because of that.
What if you could accept bitcoin and have it instantly converted to USD and placed in your bank account all for a fee of 0.99%? And you never have to worry about exchange rate volatility. Does that sound appealing?

Not to mention I'm sure the doc will convert it back to dollars to operate his business.
