I know people love Nolan Ryan, but objectively he is not even remotely close to the top 10 let alone the greatest of all time. There are no stats that matter that you can use to justify that ranking. Using most no hitters would be like saying the greatest hitter is the one with the most 4 HR games or most grand slams.

I'll take Greg Maddux as the greatest pitcher of all time.

And yes, Big Unit was a better strikeout pitcher than Nolan Ryan.

Nolan Ryan had 5 more no-hitters broken up in the 9th inning. Incredible stat.

K/9
Johnson: 10.6
Nolan: 9.5

K/Season
Johnson: 271
Ryan: 246

K/BB
Johnson: 3.26
Ryan: 2.04

Nolan just came up 3-4 years sooner than Johnson. Other than that, they averaged about the same number of starts and IP per season.

You can argue about who is the best (for my money its Koufax and Bob Gibson 1A and 1B) but this ^ is a dumb statement.

Yeah, the decision by the Mariners not to promote Randy Johnson to the majors until he was 27 is one of the most bizarre personnel decisions in MLB history.

Being a better pitcher isnt all about K's. Nolan had a much better headlock and right hook than Johnson.

Yeah. Maybe not top 10 depending on how you value guys...but at least he's gotta be close.
