Are the Cons starting to outweigh the Pros with starting Stevenson??

I know he is great in the OF, but his hitting has been dreadful. IMO Laird and Foster and not far behind him as far as defensive ability (Foster actually brings a cannon along with good range), so I'm starting to wonder if Stevenson might start to see less PT with the emergence of Foster and the reemergence of Laird.

Meh. I think Stevenson justifies himself in the field.

Plus, it's too late to frick with the lineup now IMO.

It's not like Foster has been on fire at the plate. He looked pretty bad in the regional.

Is he batting under .175 yet?

Yes, Laird in center and Foster in right isn't that big a defensive drop off, if any, and the hitting takes a huge leap upwards.

I like Stevenson in the lineup. He was overmatched against gray but most of our hitters were.

After lairds first at bat who on here would have guessed he would get 3 hits? :crickets:

I definitely want foster to play more but it looks like we have a good problem to have with Foster and Moore coming off the bench.

He is hitting around .180 That is terrible.

Huh. I mean we are basically giving the other team an free out. U would sacrifice an out for some superstition that it messes up the team's juju??

He is hitting in the mid/low .300s and is very good defensively as well with a plus arm.

stevenson has won games for us with defense! besides he is batting over 300 with runners in scoring position - let cpm push the buttons!

If you are hitting .180 then you are overmatched by just about everyone.

Yeah, Stevensons defense is entirely too good. He has made multiple game saving catches this year and well need all the outfield speed we can get when we make it to Omaha.

CPM has said, several times, that Stevenson is his best outfielder as far as playing defense. CPM sees him every day in practice & has seen several highlight plays in real games, so I'm content to let him decide who plays where. The time for experimenting is long gone & we need to stay with a set lineup. After 60+ games, CPM knows who can do what where.

No one is saying Stevenson can't play defense but Laird may well have made the same plays in center Stevenson has made.

And we were all glad to see him pinched hit for in the 8th with a runner in scoring position.

Yes, I've been calling for this for a month now. Stevenson makes some insane plays out in the field but Foster has made some incredible plays too. He may not be quite as fast as Stevenson in the field but losing a half a step on the ball hit to the outfield won't kill us. Foster's bat is much more productive than Stevenson.

It's a slight loss in the field but a big gain at the plate.

Stevenson's not missing a start the rest of the year, just learn to live with it.

This is a pretty tough call--can see by the posts that there are strong arguments both ways.

I guess as long as the team is successful, CPM's decisions on this can't be criticized too severely.

Many baseball purists over the years believe strongly that to have a chance to win championships, a team needs to be very solid defensively up the middle--c; 2b; ss and cf and that those position players on the corners in most cases should provide most of the long ball hitting and RBI's.

And to think that just 4 weeks ago, some on this board were calling Foster's arm a liability. Funny how one play changes that.
