I think the biggest problem, even moreso than a hot striker, is the lack of width. This team is crying out for a winger imo a la Robben and Duff in Jose's first tenure. Maybe Schurrle can provide that but I was hoping for a bigger signing to fill that role. I'll trust in Mou til he gives me reason not to though.

I thought Victor Moses filled this role quite nicely. I like the way Chelsea is set up but I wouldn't expect them to hit their stride for a while. Grinding out results is the best thing considering they've just had 4 managers in 2 years. Patience isn't a virtue at Chelsea, but the signs are promising.

He was pretty hit or miss last year. Hopefully in his second year at the club and another year of experience can help him become more consistent because he is probably the one player on the roster who can provide what we really need. This is, of course, provided he doesn't go missing in Nigeria again anytime soon.

This is how you win the title and we definitely did that today. A positive sign since we have have dropped so many points in these kinds of games the last couple of years.

There is a Manc (RED) podcast that I listen to called Red Wednesday and they have an opposing teams fan on each week. Chelsea was this week and the guy basically said that a Mourinho coached chelsea team as never scored more than 4 in a game.

Under every other manager they have scored more than 4. You all don't score as many under Mourinho, but can grind out strings of 2 nil results rather than a 8 nil and then a draw the following week.

Thought that there was some truth to that and that's the reason for the winning the League with Mou.

lol luckily this wasn't the case.

I doubt he plays vs United but I would like to see him get some action soon if he is back to fitness, he played good in the preseason.

There's def some truth to it and it's part of the deal with Jose. However, the defense is usually more airtight. We could have easily conceded 4 today.

I doubt many people watch much Ukranian League but I'm sure there's somebody on here that will claim to know all.

I just hope he can play out wide, beat people on the dribble, run fast, and whip in some crosses. If not, we don't need him.

crazy watches the russian league some, IIRC, but the only real scouting any of us could have is from Donetsk CL matches.

He's a winger.

And beating people on the dribble, running fast, and crossing is what he does. more so the first two but he is a pretty good crosser too.

£30 million is quite the price tag...he must be a solid player for that kind of money.

If he can stretch the game wide, then I like it. Who does he replace within the starting XI or is he a rotation player?

Well, I assume, based off of only 2 games, that the starter in the attacking midfield is Hazard. After that, it seems to be a mad scramble for playing time with Mata, Oscar, De Bruyne, Shürrle, Van Ginkel, Moses, and now Willian.

Mourinho has stated numerous times he only wants a squad of 22, and even if he didn't say that, that is a lot of players competing for just 3 spots per game (+ subs).

At this point, I would expect Moses to be loaned and I've heard/read rumors of a Mata loan (which would make me ). Never-the-less it will interesting to see how Mourinho keeps the rotation going and keeps everyone happy.

If I had to guess the "depth chart" probably looks like this:

1st team (formation)? ----Hazard----Mata/Oscar---Oscar/De Bruyne
2nd team (formation)? ----Mata/Hazard----Hazard/Oscar----Shürrle/Willian/VanGinkel

If that makes sense. It's hard to create a "depth chart" for soccer because 9/10 a star player is going to play a lot.
