Great pics!

Damned if I'd be on a motor scooter though.

I believe we had over 100 riders in both the BBNP and the Big Bend Ranch State Park.

But next time, this will be going with me and the bike

A few more

Would love to take the Jeep out there to camp and look at the stars. One of the best Star gazing spots in the country

Great pictures. I went on a week long field trip this past spring break with my structural geology class exploring BBNP.

Wow, I was off on the brand and engine size. It looks very BMW dakar style in some of those pictures.

Did you get to visit the Porch Lizards at the old Study Butte store?
Spent field camp down there from USL in 1980.

Not sure which store it was, but I did sit and drink a few the locals on the porch.

Great pics. I ve been wanting to go to Big Ben. Is it safe these days to bring the whole family? Aren't you not allowed firearms? I would have to at least bring a sidearm.

Firearms are allowed. I was there a couple of weeks ago and the guy camping next to us mentioned he had his. It's pretty safe, though the black bear numbers are up and we just missed seeing a mountain lion. I don't think there is any real violence issue involving drug or people smuggling, Big Bend is so remote that really doesn't make much sense. They just re-opened the border crossing there, it was closed after 9/11. It's damn hot now, cooler months are definitely better.

Did a hiking trip on the north rim of chisos mountains. Hiked to highest point and camped. Incredible trip.

It was amazing to me how fast the temp drops after sunset

It is safe. Just be aware of your surroundings and camp in designated areas. Be prepared and plan well. As far as the wildlife, you should be fine. There were a couple of mountain lion attacks in the area last year, but they are rare. I would be more concerned with rattlesnakes.

The area is so remote that illegals and drug smuggling is difficult in the park, but it does happen. Border Patrol and the Park Rangers are out and about.

You dont want to go in the summer. Its is miserably hot. Right now is the off season in the park because of the heat.

Yes, it is. I had a thermometer on our picnic table and just before the sun broke over the mountain in the morning it was 58 degrees. 20 minutes later it was 78 degrees as the sun started to do its thing. By afternoon it was 94 degrees in the Chisos basin and 108 down along the Rio Grande.

The dew point was 8 degrees when we were there. It felt great at night and the stars are just stunning. The Milky Way actually looks like the name.

Edited to add a few photos:
