Dario Saric Draftexpress scouting video...not impressed.

Hope he really does opt out of the draft or at least that we don't take him. Has some nice passing ability, especially some of those touch passes. However, looked too slow on defense and his shot looked worse than I thought. Can't create offense (his own or for a teammate) unless he's in transition or can get past his man, but doesn't have a great, or even good, first step.
Yes, he's got potential, but I'd rather him be someone else's project.
Started new thread b/c other 2 about him were dying down, figured it'd get lost in the shuffle.
eta: Though it would be cool to add a guy with 2 mustaches to go along with our guy with 1 eyebrow.

I've heard some scouts believe he is probably destined to play a stretch 4 type of role in the NBA. Wouldn't really feel our needs, since we already have one of those..

Look, there are players I like and don't like, just like anyone else.
But to say "I'm not impressed" based on a youtube video is something I hate in the internet era. You really don't know anything about him, to be honest. How's his footwork? Basketball IQ? What do advanced analytics say about him in very particular circumstances?
I don't know. And you certainly can't either be impressed or unimpressed from a short video.
I do like the things I have heard and seen. But its not enough to be "impressed or unimpressed" by.

I just HATE the online scouts everyone seems to become by watching a highlight video. Its a pet peeve of mine, one that I am sometimes guilty of as well. Its nothing personal.

It's all we have to base our opinion on. Limited videos and the opinions of numerous "experts" that do spend more time scouting them. Just try to take their evaluations with that of our own from what we have access too and see how we think their game will translate to the next level. I
enjoy it, never claimed to be an expert by any means. I do consider myself to have a fairly high basketball IQ, though admittedly that doesn't necessarily translate to a good talent scout.
Just thought that was the best video of him for those purposes that I've seen yet. Wanted to share with the board.

I agree with you. These videos seem to cherry pick plays and base their entire assessment off of it. Let's say a prospect is said to lack footspeed. The person who makes the video focuses all of his energy in finding the plays where it makes his point. There may be 10 plays in the stretch of 5 games where he uses to argue his point. But never acknowledges how well he may be guarding his opponent overall.
There's so much emotions, bias, and stereotyping in these videos. It's hard to get a good gauge on the prospects if you don't watch them regularly. Frankly, I think people put way too much emphasis on them and it really influence their opinions on the said prospect. You can never get a good enough idea of the prospect to formulate your own opinions without watching them play.

3 weeks ago nobody here had ever heard of Saric. Now half the board's disappointed that we won't get to draft him.
How many people here are actually basing opinions on actual games they've watched?
I'd say almost no one based off the way the board's collective mind changes on prospects weekly, daily, even though most of these guys haven't played in months.

I think your overall point is true, but I don't think this is accurate. Most people seem relieved that Demps won't be tempted to take a guy there aren't enough highlights and stats of to form a proper opinion.

Whether or not anyone has heard of him prior to a couple of weeks ago is irrelevant. You don't have to know who a prospect is prior to watch them play. There are game tapes out there if you can actually find them. If you're resourceful enough, it's not too hard to find.
