So me and my friends are trying to improve our golf game we're all 20+ handicaps.

What do you guys use to track statistics? So far the apps I've checked out seem more trouble than their worth, I don't want to input every shot on my phone while out on the course and slow down our pace of play.

Ideally I'd like a system where I keep basic stats on the scorecard and then I can input and analyze the data once I get home.

I know I want to track fairways, GIR, putts, chips?, sand saves, penalty strokes. Any other suggestions? Anybody have a spreadsheet they use?

I like handicap tracker. You have to keep the score card and input your score, course par, and slope. It was free.

I just joined the Palmer Golf Handicap Network. If you have a course near your home it be free.

LINK

ETA: I am at about +20 handicap, and the best way to get better is to practice the short game.

How would this slow down pace of play? You simply put your shot in the app while walking or driving the cart to your ball

I'd track where you are missing your shots. No offense that seems like it would be a bigger help to a +20 hdcp. Something like MFR(missed fairway right), MFL, MG(green)R, MGL, MGS(short), MGLNG.

Also, I would probably track other instances on bad swings like noting if a shot was hit fat or thin. It may help you to realize what type of shots are giving you the most trouble

Personally I can replay each shot on every hole in my head. Especially if I am keeping a scorecard. Keep score and input it after your round.

I just mark it on the card and then input the data later like so

Right I can usually replay the whole round by looking at my scorecard. I'd just like some help analyzing my game once I'm back home.

Geuxdeux how do you keep track of it all once you get back home? Excel spreadsheet, website, app?

I mean I'm a 20+ handicap, I've got work to do on putting, chipping, irons, and off the tee box. I'd just like to come up with something that's effective long term so I can compare my golf game from May 2013 to July 2013 to May 2014, etc.

I want a system in place now that'll help me even as my Handicap drops.

the website for the Callaway Upro is what I use. It keeps track of GIR, putts per round, driving accuracy etc. etc. It's free and really easy to use
