Nothing against Laird, don't mind him in the starting lineup. But no way under any circumstances should he be batting 2nd. It baffles me why PM continues to do this. It's crunch time now every move counts.

I wonder the same thing! I was just texting ma buddy and he said it's going to come back and bite us in the arse one day. I sure hope he's wrong!

I don't know, why don't you tell us what team you coach again?

He needs to bat 7-9. I agree that one game it's gonna bite us in the arse. He has no business there. I can't fathom what PM sees in him to bat him 2nd.

I was about to start a thread with this exact same thing. Why have him batting in that spot right in front of such a superior hitter like Bregman? He's the worst hitter of the 9.

I'm ok with questioning things like this. It's these little coaching nuances that make baseball fun to discuss. But this statement is just dumb.

He's got the second worst starting OBP (.364) on the team. Speed means nothing if you cant get on.

Should be 9th and Stevenson should be on the bench.

Bat him 9th if its for speed. Be like another lead off man. 2 hole has to be a hitter. Somebody that can handle the bat, make contact, move people over. He can't even bunt.

Stevenson is batting 100 points lower.

I think Laird is just fine in the 2-hole actually. He is capable of bunting, and in a tight game, that could be a huge difference to get someone in scoring position, whereby Bregman can send him home. Plus, if he does lay down a good bunt, he has more than enough speed to beat out a throw.

ETA: to clarify, I agree that a better hitter should be in the 2-spot, but I think he might be the best option at this point.

So he can ALMOST beat out every groundball that he hits. Sure it makes the announcers say "WOW he almost beat out that routine ground ball" but an out is still an out!

I've seen more failed bunt attempts from him. Like i said originally I'm not knocking Lairs being in the starting lineup but hitting 2nd is absurd to me.

You are missing the point, it seems. 1) He makes contact, which could lead to a hit (not striking out), 2) If he does make contact, speed like Laird's can force an errant throw from an infielder.
