Yea they are insane. Crazy how many players were in double digit HRs too.

Yeah, I really think they've gone too far with the bat and ball changes. I believe we've gotten to the point of averaging less than 1 home run per game by either team. Home runs are fun. This isn't like slowing down Chip Kelly's hurry up offense; this is like putting them in shackles and outlawing the option and the forward pass. Can you imagine college football rule changes that resulted in an average of less than one touchdown per game by either team? And not because of great defense, but just by screwing with the rules?
That would be lame as hell. I loved gorilla ball, but I wouldn't mind so much as long as there was still SOME fun and excitement in the game. Hell, at this point, I'm hoping to see the other team crush the ball because I know that means a 90% chance of an out. That's just wrong.
Of course, last night's explosion kind of undercuts my point, but the fact that it was SO extraordinary also kind of makes my point. Why should we be shocked when one of the top 2-3 teams -- noted for powerful bats -- hits multiple home runs in a game? That's a sign of a game made very, very boring.

Please take a look at Brandon Larson's line. 40 HR's.
yea and what's really crazy is that Lance Berkman's stats were a good amount better than that

What jumps out at me from these stats is not only Larsons home runs, but the amount of guys with double digit home runs, which is truly unbelievable.
At the time, everyone thought it was normal, but now looking back on it, really makes you think about how lucky we were to experience this team.

I wonder how many people quit following college baseball when the bat changes were implemented?

I recall getting the Triple Play Baseball video game on my parent's cpu back in the day and would create this team. I always placed them on the Detroit Tigers for mascot symmetry.

Didn't miss a game that year (on the radio/TV)
A home run in all 70 games.
Never will this feat be repeated

Brandon Larson was one of the greatest COLLEGE baseball players ever.
His was handed a wooden bat and faded off into the sunset unfortunately. Wish he would have been a bigger name in MLB but he was exposed on the next level sadly.

Gotta find a happy medium somewhere... When the 60s were the pitching era in Mlb and the 90s were the hitting era, the best baseball was in the 70s and 80s... Every 30 years it shifts

Berkman's stats weren't a whole lot better than Larson's. Berkman didn't play in the SEC, either.

That was a fun team to watch.

He hit 50 points higher with more HR's, doubles, walks, RBI
Larson had a sick year but Bertman had crazier numbers

I remember reading about Berkman at that time. He was a man child

Yep, Larson didn't hit any homeruns off of Choupique19 in 1997. Can't say the same for Berkman.

Team ERA was 4.62 and if I remember back in the day that was pretty good! If any team had less than a 4 ERA, they were virtually unbeatable (until they played LSU - see Wichita St, Stanford, Clemson , Miami, Etc.).

188 team homers...the good ole clown bats
