Quarter RROD error- E74 message, might be looking to buy used one

Is it a lost cause to use 3rd party repairs? MS of course wants to charge me $100. I'm a first-timer...not sure how to proceed.
Also, anyone looking to sell an old XBox? I searched and saw Scruffy posted that he was willing to sell one for $60 about 3 weeks ago. Any others willing to sell theirs for about that price?

60 is reasonable but I doubt you'll find another one for that price.

frick your test dude, my clan needs me. And I need to maintain my .87 KD ratios. I'm not 100% sure since I'm trying to save for a Europe trip and I am illogical. More like 95% sure.
