I don't think that was how the media treated those two situations.

I'm surprised too, and I like it as well. I'm sure the cartoonist will be roundly criticized for it and have to issue a retraction and apology.

Well not Tebow's at least. Tebow has gotten plenty of good press. Sure there was some negative things, but the treatment by the media has been overwhelming positive in regards to him as a person.

The media maybe, but I don't recall Tebow getting a call from Obama praising him for not hiding his faith.

I thought the Jason (forget his last name) story was silly, but he was a first of sorts, even though I really don't care. There have been plenty of openly Christian athletes before Tebow.

Hardly, The Collins story was over and done faster than a lot around here are willing to admit. Yeah it was big for a few days but then went away.

The Tebow cartoon is nothing close to the way his Christianity was portrayed by the media. During his run with the Broncos it was everywhere.

The answer is Scott Stantis. Chicago Trib stole him from the B'ham News down here in Bama. He is awesome and his art hits the nail on the head 9 out of 10 times.

ETA: he still calls in to the local political talk radio guy in the morning down here. Cool cat even when I disagree with him.

This may be the dumbest cartoon ever. I agree with the Collins side, but seriously. Tebow didn't have every media member shoving a mic in his face? Did nobody see when ESPN took over the Jets training camp last yr? Sal Pal pretty much had his own highlight reel on SC.

Yep. The guy that does it for the Bham news now is like an artistic Obama.

The vast majority of the media did not treat Tebow like that.

You might have noticed that there was some pretty big news items that came up around the same time.

re: I can't believe the Chicago Tribune published this cartoon

I understand the point that the cartoon is asserting but I think the two different scenarios are almost unrelated. Tebow being a Christian isn't shocking or edgy. Homosexuality is not-so-secretly taboo in our country (probably has something to do with this "Christian nation" business). The media thrive on edgy, interesting, and controversial stories. Religious views (especially Chrsitianity in America) are not interesting nor are they thought-provoking. For argument's sake, though, if you honestly expect the media to be weighing in on truly important issues, you must not have paid attention while CNN and Fox News were talking about the relationship status of one of the Boston Bombers.... you know, because of how remarkably relevant that is to anyone.

Yes, the cartoon makes a point, but it's a little unintelligent in my opinion.

Collins came out because of the U.S. supreme Court cases which will be decided in a few weeks.

It was all about timing.

Among multiple others distinguishing factors between the two stories... like years, for instance. The more I think about it, the more absurd it appears to be.

Over analyzing really.

It's a cartoon and, while it is true that Tebow has gotten much good press, it is also true that some of the same sources that told Tebow to shut up jumped on the Collins is awesome bandwagon.

That is what I got from the cartoon. Just sort of making fun of those individuals who actually are on the "shut up Tebow, Collins is awesome" line.
