Damn, he did a great job while he was here, and from what I hear really helped JOB3 and his development, wish him the best and thx for helping on the recruiting trail.

Multiple factors some we as fans can only speculate on:
1) He is originally from Memphis
2) Pastner could have ponied up big buck$ to get Kirby because multiple LSU targets are Memphis/TN recruits- Roby, Lindsey, Hymon, and Black, so Memphis just got another advantage with these guys.
3) Assistant coaches are always looking for that next stepping stone to get that head job somewhere, while we as loyal LSU fans could never understand or accept it, in the past decade Memphis has been the better program and more noticed nationally.
4) Kirby was first chair at LSU so....
All in all I cannot say he made a bad decision it was a chance for him to return home and for Memphis they get new connections with some prized Memphis guys.

How is cyprien so highly regarded nationally? He was on Gillespie staff at uk and the current A&M staff. Both didn't do well.

Plus Memphis has been to the dance more than a few times the last ten years. Its all about the now and now, they are higher profile in basketball than LSU.

he was also the lead for the turkish kid so that option may have gone by the wayside but who knows
