I'll try to make this short. I have a '97 Yamaha outboard that I need a small (and by itself) very inexpensive part for. The tilt/trim switch cover somehow was broken and this causes the tilt to operate by itself at times rendering the boat unfishable. I have looked at parts lists and I can't buy this piece of plastic (that likely costs 12 cents) without buying the entire switch (that costs $70). Does anyone have any ideas of where I might be able to find some old yamaha controls where i can scavage this little plastic cover. I would be more than willing to pay a few dollars for this part as I can't use my boat until this is replaced.

TIA

I'm not sure why I didn't include this before.....

This is exactly like mine. The little black trim switch cover on the inside of the throttle is what I need.

This sounds like a great option except I am the un-handy man. I am almost positive that the switch is fine......I just need this tiny piece of plastic. This piece is what keeps the switch in neutral when I'm not using it for trimming the motor.

Yes

This is true to a point. The cover holds the trim in neutral. While driving home from fishing the other day the motor trimmed all the way up three times by itself. Without this piece the trim kinda does whatever it wants to do at that given moment. I can see this as being an issue while driving my boat.

Yeah I had found this too, but since the trim works I didn't see the need to buy the entire switch. I will if I need to, but this will hamper my fishing when I start my vacation this friday.

I appreciate the input guys. Monday I will try to call a few dealerships and see if the have any old controls laying around that I might scavange this piece from. If not then I'll just go ahead and buy the new switch.

3D printer-$2500 (cheapie model)

New trim switch-$60 (don't even need the entire switch)

Plastic cover for trim switch-probably hundreds thrown away every day (all I need is one)

I have a sneaking suspicion that I'll be buying a new switch.

Post a picture of the switch and the plastic piece. Plenty here could help you with ideas for a cheap easy fix.

I'll work on that when I get home today. I'm at work right now.
